The Embargo Act was to prohibt trade with another country. The act was targeted for Great Britian, but the act banned trade and imports from all countries. Congress revoked the act in March 1809.

The Federilists thought that because of the failed Embargo Act, that they would win the next election. For the Federilists theuy nominated Charles Pickney, and for the Republicans they nominated James Madison. Madison takes the victory.

Harrison attacked Prophetatown while Tecumseh was away. The battle was another victory for the Americans, but this also convinced Tecumseh to join forces with the British.

When the war began the United States were unprepared for war. The fighting force was small, the new recruits were poorly trained.

After the U.S. won Lake Erie, the British and Native Americans backed off a little on Detroit. Harrison and his army cut off their army. In the battle. Tecumseh was killed.

Oliver Hazard Perry was the commander of Lake Erie naval force. In the bloody battle Perry and his ships destroyed British warships and Lake Erie was now apart of American soil.

British sailed into Chesapeake Bay and started an attack on Washington D.C. They burned down almost all of the buildings including the Presidents mansion. Fourtanetly a thunderstorm purt out the fire before the buildings were completely destroyed.

Sir George Prevost led Soliders from New York to Canada. An American naval force on the shore of the lake conqured the British fleet. This battle convinced the British that war was very unnecessary.

American and British Representitives met in Ghent, Belgium to sign the peace treaty. The treaty does not change existing borders. There was no discussion of impressment of soliders.

There was one final battle before the U.S. was informed of the treaty. Andrew Jackson and his soliders were no match for the red coats. This victory helped Jackson win the presidential election of 1828
