At the end of 1936 the two get engaged and Vladek moves from Czechostowa to Sosnowiec to be with Anja.

Vladek and Anja get married in 1937.

Vladek’s textile factory, financed by his in-laws, is up and running, and Richieu is born

Richieu, their first child, is born.

On Anja and Vladek's train ride back from the Sanitarium they the Nazi Flag for the first time.

Anja develops postpartum depression so Vladek accompanies her to Czecoslovakia to recover.

Vladek is called into the army in 1939. He fought on the frontier against the Germans.

The Germans bring him to a prisoner of war camp. To escape this camp he volunteers to work in Germany, which had terrible working and living conditions.
Eventually he is released and sent back to Poland on a Red Cross train. Instead of going home to Sosnowiec, he is takento Lublin. There, he is taken to the home of a family friend, Orbach. -
Vladek is fighting in the trenches against the Germans when he is captured. He is first taken to a POW (Prisoners of War) then he is taken to a labor camp.

Vladek and Anja have gone into hiding in Sosnowiec. First, they hide in a barn and then in the farmhouse of a Polish woman, Mrs. Kowka.

The ghettos were overcrowded and dirty and the members of the Judenrat as well as the wealthy were treated significantly better than the lower class families. Vladek was there for a year.

Vladek is able to get in touch with Anja through a women at Auschwitz.

In the Summer of 1944, Vladek is moved to Birkenau, which is another camp in Auschwitz. Here he sees Anja.

Everyone evacuated and froced to go to Gross, Germany

Vladek and the other prisoners were told they were being sent to Switzerland by train, however they never reached Switzerland. Eventually, Vladek and his friends were saved by the US Army. Meanwhile, Anja was liberated by the Red Army.

Vladek travels to Sosnoweic to be reunited with Anja.

After the war, Vladek was sent to a camp for displaced persons where he had a relapse of typhus. Then he discovered that Anja was alive and living in Sosnowiec. Vladek walked there and was reunited with Anja. Consequently, they moved to the United States

When Vladek was taken to Dachau, he got typhus and nearly died.

Anja was unable to cope with the loss of her son, Richieu, and the many family members killed during the war. Subsequently she killed herself on this day in 1968.

He passed away in his sleep.
