William Seward was the US senator at the time. He bought what is now Alaska from Russia. At the time everyone thought that it was a stupid idea but then they realized how rich in resources the terrain was. -

Law passed all chinese people from entering the US. This was caused mostly by all the racial tension between railroad workers. -

This is the poem written at the base of the Statue of Liberty. Basically what it says is that the US is more than willing to accept european immigrants. -

Philippines was a Spanish colony so the US stepped in to free filipinos. What really happened was that they became part of the US because filipinos were "unable" to rule themselves. -

Telegram sent from Germany to Mexico. It say that if Mexico got in the war Germany would help them get back all the land that the US took from them. -

Peace treaty between Soviet Russia and Allied Powers in exchange of land. -

Treaty that somehow ended WWI. Here they decided what they were going to do now, like deciding what to do with the losers (Germany). -

They couldn't take part of this organization because it was just the time for presidential elections, so they didn' have anyone to make decisions.
