  • Learning Aims

    Learning aim A: To investigate the princiiples and Methodologies of IT project managements unsed in the industry.
    Learning aim B: Make a start on the project. A document portfolio created from either a 'live' or 'simulated'project.
    Learning aim C: Start the planning, execution, monitoring and controlling of the project.
    Learning aim D: Start the final stages of the project and bring it to a close. A written report/presentation evaluating the outcome of the project.
  • Introduction

    You will develop project management skills through this unit. Project manamgement is coordination both human and machine rescources in a specified time period, quality and budget.
    You will investigate different methedologies for Project Management as well as five main stages of a project.
    You will be responsible for the planning, execution, monitoring and control stages of the project. You will close the project by reflecting on the success of the project outcome and your personal performance.
  • What we did last time

    Last lesson we talked about what projact management is, the learning objectives of this unit, got given an assigement for this cours and wrote up key details from the Assigement brief.

    Started a table of three projects to project manage as an excericise to practice writing up the five stages to project management. Had meeting with tutor about the project management assigment, discussing what we want to do, the time frame, budget, risks and the five stages.

    We looked in detail at the PRINCE2 methodology. How it's made up of the stages of. Initiation, planning, Execution, Monitoring and controlling, Closing. How it's made up of Principles, Themes, Processes and tailoring.

    We started the next exercises that looked over five case studies that talk about the effectiveness and different uses of PRINCE2. We also got told about the first assigement for Project management.

    We started the fith set of Excercises in project management. Mainly focusing on the topics of CASE Tools, Gantt Charts, Agile and waterfall methodologies. What they are, what they do, their advantages and disadvantages, their use in the industry.

    We briefly looked at IPV4 address calculation. It took me a bit of time to get my head around calculating the values as well as calculating the ranges of Types A B C D and E. We also started to look at the assigements.

    We maily looked at problem identification and working around the problems. We briefly looked at the 'big rock/ little rock' method of Stephen Covey. About how to prioritize larger, more important tasks first rather than to be disstracted by smaller and less important or not important tasks. We also looked Edward De Bono's six thinking hats nad how they can be applied to project management.

    We mainly focused on assigement 1. The lesson was meant for the finishing and/or changing and checking over the current progress of it. I started it only recently, therefore didn't have much progress. I strated talking about the first methodology, Waterfall, and the scenario I chose was building a bridge. I used the Golden Gate Bridge as my base and referances when it came to the type of Bridge and general specifications. When finished I'll ask the teacher if i'm heading in the correct direction

    We looked at Project initiation. Which consists of the stages of Problem definition, Generation of Ideas, alternate solutions, Researching theme and information sources. We also looked at tools that can help solve problems, such as Mind mapping, Drawing a diagram to better understand the problem or thinking in reverse as well as de Bono's six thinking hats. We also briefelt looked at Microsoft Project.

    What we did (23/11/2021)
    We mainly focused on creating an Agenda and Minute meeting for the second Project management assigement. I managed to complete the agenda, but not the meeting notes. I'll do it later in my own time.
  • What we Did Today

    (Facts)I mainly focused on progressing the work for Project management assigement 2.
    (Emotion)I feel that I' falling a bit behind with the agendas and minute meetings.
    (Benefit)It will be easy to catch up when I put some spare time into it.
    (Jud) However being behind on many assigements and task i will need to prioritize the tasks that have become important and urgent (Need to stop this from happening.
    I tried using the new structure and strugguled considerably on the Ideas and Planing sections.
