  • Philip Nolan

    Philip Nolan
    Philip Nolan originally had permission to, but he started to entering into uncharted land. The Spanish suspected him and they arrested because he was a "filibuster." He was shot in 1801
  • Father Hidalgo

    Father Hidalgo was a Spanish priest who was against the Spanish government. Many joined his side and they spawned a decade long war. In the end, Mexico won against Spain.
  • Gutierrez-Magee Expedition

    Inspired by Father Hidalgo, Luis Gutierrez and Augustus Magee set an expedition to declare Texas' freedom. Eventually, they had accomplished what they wanted, but the two men were disputing what form of government Mexico should have. Spain took the chance and took their land back.
  • James Long Expedition

    James Long and his team went into a filibustering journey to conquer Texas. Eventually, they surrendered and James was arrested. He was killed from an "accidental shooting."
  • Moses Austin

    Moses Austin
    He wanted to colonize in Texas. With his friend, Baron de Bastrop, he was able to convince the Spanish government to give land grant. Unfortunately, he died before accomplishing his goal.
  • Mexico's Independence

    After a decade of fighting, Mexico had finally won their independence. They soon established a government, a constitution, and soon, laws about colonization. It would bring many settlers to the area.
  • Stephen F. Austin

    Stephen F. Austin
    Moses Austin's son, Stephen F. Austin wanted accomplish his father's dreams. Eventually, he was able to inherit his father's land grant and bring 300 families to Texas. He was the most successful empersario and soon became the "Father of Texas."

    The era of when many settlers came to Texas ti colonize and expand. There was a massive immigration from America to modern-day Texas.
  • Mexican Federal Constitution

    Mexican Federal Constitution
    After Mexico gained thier independence, a constitution was written and signed in 1824. It was similar to the U.S. constitution and gave its citizens similar liberties. However, citizens did not have the freedom of religion.
  • Martin de Leon

    He was the only Mexican empersario and the only one that enticed other Mexicans to settle in Texas. He brought in 200 families. He recieved his land in 1824
  • State Colonization Law of 1825

    It was a set of rules for colonizing in the land of Texas. It allowed settlers to have a certain amount of land, varying from one's social status and relationships. It caused massive immigration from America.

    He was second most successful empersario. He beought in 166 families intoTexas. He recieved his land grant in 1825.
