Unit 4: Enlightenment Timeline

  • Mobntessquieu publishes book, On the Spirit of Laws

    Baron De Montesquieu wrote the Spirit of Laws with the help of Charles de Secondat. This book talked about the ideas of Seperation of powers and the effects of government. This book described the political parties the excist like Rebublican.
  • America declare independence

    On this date memeber elected from all of the thriteen colonies gathered in a meeting to declare independence. They signed the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson. They declared independence from Great Britian. This eventually would lead to the Revolutionary War.
  • French Revolution

    This major revolution began with the Tennis Court Oath. When a group of third estate delegates were locked out of an important meeting. This led to fights and the storming of the bastille. The French King was oblivous to the revolution until women gathered at the front of his gate to protest. He eventuallly moved back to Parias to help solve the problem. He never did and he was overthrown.
  • Napoleon overthrows the Directory through a coup d'etat

    Napoleon was able to otherthrow the Directory by using a coup d'etat a sudden seizure of power and he sets up a consult. A consult is when three rulers share the power. Napoleon being one ot them.
  • Haiti wins freedom from France

    The haiti slaves grew tired of there master and formed in groups to rebel. Eventually it become officail and hundreds of slaves marched agaisnt their owners. A former slave named Tousant L'ouvture was the head of the slaves rebelion
  • Napoleon crowns himself emperor, begins to create a vast European Empire

    Napoleon crowned himself emperor wich seemed that the people had voted for. With his new power he led a conquest on all of Europe. At the height of his power he controlled almost all of Europe except for a few countries.
  • Padre Hidalgo calls for Mexican Independence

    Padre Hidalgo was a spanish priest of creole class. He fought for independence. He is famous for ringing bells to gather people for his famous speech that would start the revolution in Mexico.
  • Napoleon is defeated at the Battle of Waterloo

    Napoleon was commanding a great empire. With his power he wanted to take down France's enemy Great Britian. He failed to do so because of the the commanding officer of Britian's army smart tactical decisions and unfortunate weather.
