The caste system in India kept the social classes in order and out of trouble with each other. They kept members of classes from having really any interaction with them. It is a continuity because the caste system stuck around for about 2,000 years. Well after 600 CE and well before 600 BCE.

One of the main points when the republic became an empire was that it was much easier to worship or be loyal to one king or emperor rather than to an entire republic. This was a change because before now people were loyal to the republic, not an emperor.
