The Cotton Gin (short for engine) was created by an american man named Eli Whitney. He created it on March 14, 1794. He had made the cotton gin to make seperating cotton from the seeds easier. But, after he made it, it caused a great demand for slaves in the south. While the cotton gin made seperating cotton from seeds easier, there were some down falls to the cotton gin. When slaves and other peole used the cotton gin, it tended to damage the cotton fibers.
