    Archduke Franz Ferdinand Assination
    Franz Ferdinand was Archduke of Austria-Este, Austro-Hungarian and Royal prince of Hungary and of Behemia. His reign was from 1896 until his sudden death in 1914. This is thought to be the spark of starting WWI. He and his wife were assassinated by a Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

    Austria declared war on Serbia
    This event occurred about one month after the assignation of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Austria-Hungary thought that proper response was to prepare an invasion of Serbia. Following this preparation Germany, Austria-Hungary’s ally gave Serbia a final demand on July 23, 1914. This demand stated that all anti-Austrian propaganda be ended within Serbia.

    Only four days after Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Germany declares war on Russia. But on this very same day France order there to be a general mobilization. This is referred to as the “Great War.” This war promised to be death filled and extreme distructions. The results of this war was about 20 million civilians and soldiers died for this “Great War.”

    Belgium was considered neutral at the time until it was invaded by Germany. Britain then sends an final demand, which of course was rejected by the Germans. This demand was for Germany to basically uninvade Belgium, since they were neutral.

    Belgium had several ports that were obviously used for trading. But now that Germany had invaded Belgium their ports were closed to British Coast.
    On this same date the United States declare themselves neutral. President Woodrow Wilson said “ impartial in thought as well as in action.”

    The BEF started its retreat from Mons. Germany invaded France.a
    BEF is an acronym for British Exeditionary Force. Which was headed by Sir John French. There were four wars referred to as “Battles of the Frontiers” and the Battle of Mons was the final of these four. The French and Germany posed an even greater threat then the BEF could have ever expected, so the retreated their troops as fast as they could. But they couldn’t retreat fast enough leaving a total of 1,600 casualties.

    The German Army which was under the leadership of Paul Von Hindenburg and Erich Ludendorff, striked with a ton of power against the Russian Army which was led by General Aleksandr Samsonov. And all of this was occurring in East Prussia, during “the opening” of WWI. But 8n the midst of this battle there were two lakes separating almost all communication between the two allies making it difficult to make a sturdy plan and even more difficult to attack at the same time.

    Battle of the Marne was the first time that troops used radio intercepts and transport of troops in automobiles during the time of war. The Battle of the Marne was fought to the northeastern section of Paris.

    The first Battle of Ypres was occurring near the Belgian city of Ypres. The allies and German forces started the first of what would continue on to be three battles that would determine who would control the city and it would also offer a numerous number of positions, on and within the north coast of Belgium.

    Turkey entered the war on Germany’s side
    Turkey, also referred to as the Ottoman Empire joined Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Bulgaria on the Central Powers. Turkey saw allying with the Central Powers as a good thing considering that they were such a powerful gro of countries. And Turkey decided to join before it was too late and so they were semi safe.

    Britain suffers its first deaths from their first ever expierence with an air attack from Germany when two German pilots drop bombs on Great Yarmouth and King’s Lynn, which are along the coast of England.
