    European History During th eNapoleonic Wars, Napoleon took over the German states. When he did this, he put them together, and they realized they had one thing in common. They all had a hatred for Napoleon. This brought them closer. This was not all good though, because they were together unwillingly, and, as you can understand, they were not all happy.(Secondary)

    The German states had high tariffs on borders, so some of the states created the union called th zollverein. Members were lowered tariff prices. All German states joined except Austria. Getting closer to unification. Austri slips farther away from the German states.(Picture)

He helped Bismarck form all of the German states besides Austria into one country. When he died, Bismarck had to resign, though.(Secondary)

    William I brought Bismarck into the position of Primeminister because William was having troubles. He wanted Bismarck to be ahead of the army. Bismarck would soon become crucial to the unification of Germany. However, a negative side to this is that Bismarck would eventually do some things that lead to WWI. (Secondary)

    Primary Source Prussia wanted to annex Holstein because of its population, so Bismmarck joins Austria to fight Denmark for Holstein. They win. Austria got Schleswig, and Prussia got Holstein. One step closer to unification. Prussia made enemies with Denmark, however.(Primary)

    Seven Weeks War

    Primary Source Bismarck defeated Austria wihtin seven weeks. After this war, Prussia was able to dissolve the German Confederation and start the North German Confederation with all of the german states except Austria and some on the Austian-Influenced southern states. Tensions between Austria and Prussia rise.(Primary)
