  • Mexican revolt against Spain

    Mexican revolt against Spain
    Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Mexican priest, led a rebellion of around 80,000 Indians and mestizos against Spain in 1810 in hopes to gain independence from the monarchy of Spain. The revolt failed but it brought a sliver of hope to the growing rebellion.

    Mexico becomes independent
    Mexico wins independence from Spain. Mexico adopts a republican constition that gives all Mexicans their rights.
  • Stephen F. Austin and Mexico sells land in Texas

    Stephen F. Austin and Mexico sells land in Texas
    A young agent named Stephen F. Austin goes to Texas and starts a colony of 300 settlers known as the Old Three-hundred. Austin inspires Mexico to begin sending agents to sell land in Texas to settlers from the east as long as they obey the Mexico laws and become Mexico citizens. A few settlers explicitly disobeyed the laws. Concerned about losing control of Texas, Mexico responds by banning any other settlers from moving to Texas.

  • Texas Revolution begins

    Texas Revolution begins
    In October of 1835, Mexico wished to take a cannon from the town of Gonzales, Texas. Rebels next to the cannon flew a flag reading, " Come and take it". The rebellious Texans won the Battle of Gonzales and thus began what is now known as the Texas Revolution.
  • The Battle of San Jacinto

    The Battle of San Jacinto
    Mexican army general, Santa Anna, pushes Texan rebels to the San Jacinto river where they take a stand. The Texans invade the sleeping Mexico army and capture Santa Anna. They then force Santa Anna to give Texas it's indepndence.
