    Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, were assassinated in Sarajevo, Boshia, while touring the city, by Gavrilo Princip, who was apart of a terrorist group called The Black Hand.

    King Peter of Serbia the First received a ultimatum from Austria, demanding officials to investigate the assassination of Archduke and his wife, and to immediately arrest the probable conspirators. Austria knew the ultimatum would be rejected.

    On August 2, 1914, Germany delivers an ultimatum to enter Belgian territory in order to invade France. The King of Belgium, King Albert, refused to grant Germany permission.
    On August 3, 1914, Germany disregards the king of Belgium's refusal and invaded Belgium in order to strike northern France in accordance with the Schlieffen Plan, starting the first battle of Liege.
