The Russian Revolutions

  • Bloody Sunday

    A group of workers marched to the czar’s Winter Palace in St. Petersburg to make their demands, and they opened fire on the demonstrators, killing and wounding hundreds. Strikes and riots broke out throughout the country in outraged response to the massacre.
  • WWI Begins

    WII was the world’s first global conflict. Introducing modern technology to warfare resulted in more than 9 million soldiers killed by the end of the war.
  • Czar Nicholas abdicated the throne

    Czar abdicated the throne at the end of the February Revolution. He did this in favor of his brother who refused the throne and brought an end to the czarist autocracy.
  • Rasputin is killed

    a group of nobles led Rasputin to Yusupovsky Palace, where they tried to poison him by putting poison in his food and wine. The nobles noticed that he wasn’t affected by the large amount of poison so they shot him at close range and he fell. About a minute later, he rose and beat one of his assailants and tried to escape from the palace but was shot again. Still living, Rasputin was then caught and thrown into a freezing river.
  • February Revolution

    The February Revolution began with protests and striking. Workers refused to leave the streets when the police asked them.
  • Lenin takes power

    During the October Revolution Lenin takes power and becomes dictator of the first Marxist state. His government gets defeated and the USSR gets established.

    Civil war between the White and Red armies

    War fought between the Red and White armies. The Red army was made of communists and the White army was against the communists.
  • October Revolution

    Vladimir Lenin was the leader of the October Revolution and led the Bolsheviks in a revolution against the provisional government. The Bolsheviks soon formed a new government with Lenin as their leader.
  • The Communist Party is Develpoed

    The Communist Party was developed when the Bolsheviks broke. They renamed their group the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1952
  • The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk ended Russia’s involvement in WWI

    This treaty was signed on 3 March 1918. It was signed by the new Bolshevik government of Soviet Russia and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and Ottoman Empire), this treaty ended Russia's participation in World War I.
  • The USSR is Established

    On the 30, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) is established. It was made up of a confederation of Russia, Belorussia, Ukraine, and the Transcaucasian Federation.
  • Stalin becomes dictator

    Stalin became the dictator after Lenin’s death. Dictator of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR)
