    The Decembrist Revolt
    The Decembrist Revolt was to protest the ascension of Tsar Nicholas l to the throne after the death of his father Alexander l. When Nicholas l stepped foward he was terribly unpopular so about 3,000 officers decided to take action. The 3,000 men assembled in Senate Square to protest the ascension of Nicholar l. The Tsar ordered over 9,000 soldiers to surround the officers and pressure them to leave.

    In the 1861 serfdom, the Russisn peasants got tied to the landlords by a system that was abolished at the Tsar's command. Four years after that, slavery in the US was declared unlawful. Then, Tsar Alexander ll shared a conviction with his father that American slaves were inhumane. The serfs made up one third of all of the population of peasantry.

    Josef Stalin was a dictator of the Union Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). After Lenin died, Stalin outmaneuvered his rivals for control of the party. Stalin collectivized farming and had his enemies dead, or forced into labor camps. He made a tense relationship with the West, known as the COld War.

    This was unite the revolutionary organizations into one party. The Bolsheviks claimed the name after getting their way in a Party Newspaper. The Mensheviks accepted the appellation because they were more in the majority. Both groups were enthusiasts for the destruction of capitalism.

    Russia and Japan have endured several years of disputes over control of Manchuria. Russia, Germnay, and France then set up a triple intervention that forced Japan to give up its demands for ports in South Manchuria. Then, Russia moved into that area and took control of Port Arthur. In 1904, the Japanese attacked Russia at Port Arthur but Russia still defeated him.

    When Russia was losing the war to Japan, Russia explodes in violence at St. Petersburg, known as Bloody Sunday. Nicholas ll was more weak than ever before so Russia was going downhill. On the other hand, Lenin was gathering forces of socialist rebellion. It was also hard on Nicholas ll because his son was suffering from hemophilia.

    Started by a peaceful protest in Jan. 22. This was the main turning point for Nicholas ll because he was enjoyed by his people. This was led by Father Gapon and he led 150,000 people into the cold and snow of St. Petersburg to protest on their lifestyle, They didn't want to make a political protest in case of a overthrow in the government.

    Russia was a big impact with World War 1. Disasters happened at the Masurian Lakes that weakened the Russian Army. Russia responded by rallying around Nicholas ll. Nicholas spent too much time at the Eastern Front. At the end of 1917, the Bolsheviks led by Lenin had taken power of the major cities of Russia.

    Nicholas ll was never trained nor inclined to rule which did not help Russia. Nicholas ll soon though retracted most of these concessions and the Bolsheviks won some very good support. Then Nichlas ran the country into another war in Russia. There the food became low, soldiers were weak, and there were horrible defeats on the Eastern Front.

    Kerensky is going to lead the Provisional Government. He belonged to the Socialist Revolutionaries, and the Petrograd Soviet, and a member of the Duma. Everyone thought of him as a good represenative. He then became the Prime Minister of the Provisional Government.

    This teared apart Russia for about three years. This war occured because many people had formed that opposed Lenin's Bolsheviks. This was when the Red army and the White army were fighing against each other. The Monarchists were the White army and the Bolsheviks were the Red army.

    Lenin wanted to transform the popular unrest ignited by the overtrown of the Czar two months earlier of the Revolution. He wanted this to take Russia out of war. He attempted to rally the streets of St. Petersburg with speeches for the war. However, the effort wasn't good enough and the people went to the headquarters of the Provisional Government and the Czar's Winter Palace failed.

    This was the time when Rasputin had died and Lenin was out of the country. The food was short and low and they couldn't grow anything because it was too cold out. The communists took over in November and the royal family became a problem and everyone wanted the family restored to power. So they werer them executed.

    Him and his family are executed by the Bolsheviks. A dozen of armed men bursted into the room of the family and fired gunshots everywhere. They then buried the whole family in the forest. They weren't found until they were identified two years later by DNA.
