    The Decembrist Revolt
    On December 26, 1825, there was an uprising agsinst Nicholas I. The revolt was meant to overthrow autocracy and abolish serfdom. Army officers lead 3000 Russian soldiers into St.Petersburg, but they were stopped by Nicholas I and their leaders were executed or exiled.
  • Nicholas II becomes czar of Russia

    Nicholas II becomes czar of Russia
    Nicholas II became czar of Russia after his father died of kidney disease at age 49. He said that he didn't want to become czar and he knew nothing about ruling.
  • The Russo-Japanese War

    The Russo-Japanese War
    The war started when Japan launched a surprize naval attack on Port Aurthur, a Russian naval base in China. The Russian fleet was easily beaten. During the war, Japan won a series of victories that lead to the defeat of the Russians in Shenyang, China.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Vladimir Lenin and other revolutionary leaders gathered forces to attack the czar, Nicholas II. They marched into St. Petersburg lead by the Georgy Apollonovich, the priest. They were immidiately fired at and hundreds were killed.
  • WWI Russian Involvement

    Russia entered the war with over 5 million soldiers, but only 4.6 million were armed. Their loses were catastrophic, with between 900,000 and 2,500,000 Russians killed. They were in extreme debt and inflation soared.

    Russia had lost millions of lives after WWI and many people didn't have enough food. Workers went on strike and 30,000 workers were locked out of work, not getting paid. Many people rioted and many of those people were killed, making the rioters more angry
  • The Russian Civil War begins

    The Russian Civil War begins
    The Russian Civil War was between the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks. The Bolsheviks supported communism and the Mensheviks supported democracy. The Bolsheviks won and Russia became communist. 800,000 soldiers were killed during the war and it is estimated that another 8 million died from starvation and disease.

    Czar Nicholas II Abdictes his Throne
    Nicholas II is getting people mad by entering costly wars that they couldn't win. Russia was scarce on food, soldiers went weary, and they didn't have enough ammunition. Nicholas was forced to abdicate the throne because his own soldiers turned against him.

    The creation of the U.S.S.R.
    The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) contained Russia, Belorussia, Ukraine, and the Transcaucasian Federation. It was created after communism fell.
  • Vladimir Lenin’s Death

    Vladimir Lenin’s Death
    Bolsheviks controled Russia until 1920. In 1924, Lenin died of a stroke. Petregrad was renamed Leningrad in his honor.
