  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Bloody Sunday started as a peaceful protest, led by a priest in the capital of Russia, St. Petersburg on Sunday the 21st of January 1905. 150 000 unarmed marchers walked to the palace, carrying pictures of the Tsar and singing hymns, but the tsar ordered his men to fire at the crowd, one thousand people were injured on this day, this is why it’s known as bloody Sunday.

    When WWI started the Russian people happily supported the Tsar, but chaos arose when refugees started fleeing Russia because of food shortages and the high price of living. The chaos led the Tsar to make a huge mistake. Tsar Nicholas took over a popular commander-in-chief to control the battlefront, but with the Tsar away from the capital power was passed on to the Tsarina, Alexandra. But Rasputin the ‘mad monk' swayed all her decisions and soon enough all Nicolas' best advisors were replaced.
  • Assassination of Rasputin

    Assassination of Rasputin
    Rasputin was hired to cure Alexei of haemophilia, but word spread that the Tsarina was having an affair with the holy peasant. The aristocracy were angered and made several attempts to kill him. Prince Yusupov and friends gave him a two very high dosages of poison, shot him in the heart, still failing to kill him,shot him in the back, beat him and dumped his body in a river. Rasputin's autopsy revealed that there was water in his lungs, meaning he was still alive when he was dumped in the water.

    Riots broke out in Petroguard because of food shortages, soldiers were ordered to stop these disturbances but joined the rioters instead, on March 15 Tsar Nicolas was forced to abdicate his throne as his army would no longer take follow his orders. This ended the 500 year reign of the tsarist or monarchical system.
  • November Revolution

    November Revolution
    At the end of September the Bolsheviks were in control of most of the petro guard and Moscow soviets. By October Lenin secretly returned to Petroguard, planning to have an armed uprising, The night of the 6th of November 1917 the Bolsheviks and the red army, led by Trotsky took over key points in Petroguard and by the next night had control over provisional government. Aiming to put karl marx's view on communism into practise, Lenin and the Bolsheviks were now the rulers of communist Russia.

    On the 11th Of November 1918 Germany signed the armistice with the allies, officially ending the war.
