    Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy formerd the Triple Allaince
  • Triple Entente

    France, Great Britain, and Russia created the Triple Entente.
  • Conservative Leaders Respond to Economic Change

    There was an alarming increase in labor stride and calss division. Many conservative leaders feared that Euro nation were close to a spark in revolution. This may have had part in these leaders to "take plunge" into a war.
  • "NO ALTERATIONS!" -- Military Leaders

    Russia was much ahead militarily during this time period, especially while being compared to the French and German amries. The idea and goal of militarism was spreading which installed fear in military leaders. With this fear, these leaders decided to keep their military plans the same, which left political leaders in a tight jam. Without progress, the Euro political leaders were left to make military decisions.
  • An Assassination in Sarajevo

    Austria-Hungrina heir, the Archduke Francis Ferdinand, visited the Bosnian city of Sarajevo. Waiting upon his arrival, a group of conspirors shot Ferdinand and his wife after a failed bombing atttempt. There reason for doing so was that these Bosnian indiviiduals were members of the Black Hand, which was a Serbian terrorist group that hoped Bosnia would eventually be free of Austira-Hungary and become of a larger Serbian Kingdom.
  • Ausria Gives Untimatum

    Austria leaders sent Serbia an ultimatum that included the demand of limited choice on behalf of Serbia. The only choice they truly had was to reject some Austrian demands in order to preserve the nation's severeignty.
  • War

    Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia
  • Order of Mobilization

    Russia's czar, Nicholas II ordered a mobilization of his army against Austria-Hungary.
    Leaders of the Russian army didn'y not agree with the partial mobilization, Because thy had plans based on a war against both Germany and Austria-Hungary, partly mobilizing would create an unwanted chaos in th army. The next day, Nicholas order full mobilization.
  • Warning Ignored

    After the declaration of full mobilization, Germany had a quick reactoin. The government of Germany warned the continent of Russia that it must pause it's plan of mobiliaztion within 12 hours. Russia simply ignored the warning, and ermany declared war on Russia on this day.
  • German's Plan Leads to War

    Schlieffen Plan- called for a two-front war with France and Russia who were in an alliance in the year of 1894.
    The plan was for Germany to din a way to hault Russia while most of the German army would invade France. France was defeated, and Germany moved east against Russia.
    Germany declared war on France and also issued an ultimatum to Belgium that demanded German troops the right to pass thtrough Belgian territory.

    Germany had violated Belgian neutrality. Because of the idea of alliances, by this day all the great powers of Europe were at war.

    After the British put down Irish rebellion in the capital of Dublin, the British achieved thei independence.
