The most significant events in international relations between 1871 and 1914

  • Unification of Germany

    German became existed on the 18th of January in 1871 after the Prussian- French War. French declared the war in June, 1870. French got defeated at Alsace- Lorraine. France needed to pay 5 milion francs. William I proclaimed Emperor of Germans at Versaille on the 18th of January, 1971. Small German Unity became existed.
  • Central Powers

    The 3 Emperors League was formed by Germany, Austria- Hungary and Russia. But Russia was part of the Entente Cordinale in the WWI. The Central Powers was formed in 1873 by the alliance between Austria- Hungary, Italy and Germany. The Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria joined before the WWI.
  • Spanish- American war

    The Usa obtained Cuba, Puerto Rico and The Philippines from Spain.
  • Entente Cordinale

    Alliance between: Russia, France and Britain.
    It was based on a Anglo-French agreement that, by settling a number of controversial matters, ended antagonisms between Great Britain and France and paved the way for their diplomatic cooperation against Germany. Great Britain was not in alliance with Russia, only with France at first.

    Russian- Japanese War

    The battle was fought over rival imperial ambitions in Manchuria and Korea. Japan took control over some Chinese territories and over Korea. In 1904 Japenese naval forces attacked the Port Arthur and defeated the Russian Navy at Tsushima. In 1905 Japan defeated Russia at Mukden.

    1st and 2nd Moroccan Crisis

    Germany said that they would protect Morocco from France because the German emperor, William II. wanted to weaken the French people in Africa, but Britain called a conference in Algeciras and the result was that Germany got threatened. (1905) The second Moroccan Crisis was in 1911. It took place in Agair, in a port of Morocco. The British threatened Germany again.
  • English- Russian alliance

    The alliance was relating to Persia, Afghanistan and Tibet. It was signed in St. Petersburg on the 31st of August, 1871. It abolished the rivalry about the territories in Central Asia.

    1912: Greece and Slavic nations made an alliance against Turkey. ( Balkan League)
    1912: First Balkan War: they attacked the Turks and won 1913: Second Balkan War: the allies turned against Bulgaria because it had become way too powerful Results: Greece received Macedonia
    Albania became independent
    Turks lost almost all European territories
