  • Rocket Summer

    Rocket Summer
    In this chapter, the first rocket to Mars is launched. In the cold winter, the fire from the rocket disperses a hot summer-like heat. This is exciting for mankind like it was when we first launched a rocket who's destination was the moon. It is a brief chapter but a good and necessary start to the story.
  • Ylla

    Ylla
    In this chapter, two martians, Mrs. K and Mr. K, are arguing. We quickly learn that Mr. K is very mean and slightly abusive. One day, Mrs. K tells her husband that she had a vivid dream that a man landed in a rocket somewhere nearby. She explained how it seemed so real. Her husband later on says that he is going "hunting" but really is going to the spot that Mrs. K described. He knows that Mrs. K actually saw the future and so he goes to kill the people from Earth.

    The Summer Night
    This chapter starts on a warm summer night on Mars. All of the martians are out in the towns enjoying the day. Then all of a sudden, every martian musician experiences something strange. Simultaneously, every singer uncontrollably blurts out a strange line in an unknown language. At the same time, all of the martians playing instruments begin to play a strange song concurrently. All of the martians assume that this was foreshadowing for something bad to happen.

    The Earth Men*
    The second expedition takes place. Captain Williams and his crew land on Mars and go to Mrs. Ttt. She refers them to her husband who then claims he's to busy and refers them to Mr. Aaa. They arrive at Mr. Aaa's but he just refers them to Mr. Iii and angrily says he's going to kill Mr. Ttt for always disrupting him. Angry at the fact that no one cares of their arrive, Captain Williams and his crew find Mr. Iii who makes them sign papers. Little do they know, they've signed into an insane asylum.

    The Taxpayer
    In this chapter, the crew for the third expedition is boarding the rocket. All of a sudden, a man starts running towards them and yelling. He begs for them to let him come with them out of fear. He says that there will be an atomic war soon and he wants to get off this planet as soon as possible. He is then tackled and taken away by police. While he is being taken away, he yells that it's not fair because he is a taxpayer.
  • The Third Expedition

    The Third Expedition
    In this chapter, the third crew lands on Mars. They are surprised to see that it looks like their hometown on Earth. Three men go to investigate to find that not only do the locals say that they are in Illinois, but also they find dead relatives alive. Eventually, all of the crew members happily spend the night with their resurrected loved ones. Then, Captain Black realizes that this is a trap made by the martians and tries to escape. The next morning, all of the crew members are dead.

    And The Moon Be Still As Bright
    In this chapter, Captain Wilder and his crew land on Mars. Hathaway discovers that the martian population seemed to be killed by chicken pox. They go to a town and lose Spender. Spender shows up after weeks and goes on a killing spree, claiming that he is a martian and tries standing up for the martian race. The next day, Captain Wilder and the surviving member of his crew search for Spender. There is a gunfight that ends with Captain Wilder killing Spender.

    This chapter explains why everyone now wants to go to Mars. It tells about all of the reasons to go Mars. It mention that Earth is going downhill fast. It also explains that the government is promoting the traveling to Mars. It describes a feeling of loneliness that everyone experiences as they see Earth grow smaller and smaller in the distance as they travel through space to Mars.
  • The Green Morning

    The Green Morning
    In this chapter, a man named Benjamin Driscoll is walking in the wilderness when all of a sudden he faints. He wakes up to a doctor and the doctor tells him he might have to go back to Earth because he can't handle Mar's lack of oxygen. He argues and comes up with the idea of bringing over a bunch of tree seeds in the next space ship. This happens and then he plants the thousands of tree seeds. He then falls asleep and when he wakes up, all of the trees have spontaneously grown.
  • The Locusts

    The Locusts
    In this passage, Bradbury describes present day Mars and the impact that mankind had on it. He describes the rockets used to get to Mars as locusts because they are polluting the existing areas of Mars only for the benefit of mankind. He also describes the cities, towns, and other structures on Mars that the man has made. He lastly describes Earth by saying that many people are ready to go to Mars.
  • Night Meeting

    Night Meeting
    Tomas goes on a long drive on Mars. Eventually, he sees somebody and goes to encounter them. He learns that it is a martian named Muhe Ca. Eventually the martian uses telepathy to communicate with him. Through conversation, they discover that they are from two different times. The two things that tip this off is their different descriptions of a building and the fact that they could not touch each other, much like ghosts.
  • The Shore

    The Shore
    In this chapter, we get a description of the colonization on Mars. It turns out that the only people going to Mars are people from America. Nobody from any other country has had the opportunity to go to Mars yet. There are also people going to Mars for religious purposes.
  • Interim

    Interim
    The colonization of Mars is nearly complete. The Earth settlers have brought in Earth materials, such as Oregon pine, California redwood, and nails, and built the Tenth City. Included in the towns are American-style homes, churches with stained glass windows, and the comforts of Earth, such as typewriters, music, and literature. It is as though the towns have simply been moved to Mars.

    In this passage, the reader is informed that the elderly are now traveling to Mars. It doesn’t give any explanation as to how they got them to Mars safely, but it does guarantee that they are now there.
