The Martian Chronicles

  • Rocket Summer

    Rocket Summer
One Ohio winter day a rocket blasts off (to Mars) and spurts out heat that melts the ice and snow. "The rocket made climates,....." Nothing particularly interesting happens on this chapter besides the fact that a rocket blasts off. The quote shows how the rockets created a lot of things.
  • Ylla

    Ylla
A Martian woman has a dream about a (Earth) man that lands on Mars. "A tall man, six feet one inch tall. How absurd; a misshapen giant." This chapter was interesting because you get to see how the Martians reacted to this odd situation. The quote shows how odd it is that humans are alive.
  • The Summer Night

    The Summer Night
As a Martian singer performs she stops then resumes singing a different, odd (Earthen probably) song. "What was that rhyme? Where did you learn it?" This chapter is sort of an odd one, you see that somehow the Martian's telepathy showed them an Earthen song. The quote shows the confusion of the Martians.
  • The Earth Men

    The Earth Men
The second expeditioners from Earth try to explain to the Martians that they are from Earth and they want to find out more about the race, but the Martians don't really understand. "What? She snapped. The man gazed at her in surprise. We're from Earth! I haven't got the time," I thought it was funny that the Martians didn't really seem interested in the Earth men, who look different from them and say that they are from another planet. The quote shows how the Martians don't care about them.
  • The Taxpayer

    The Taxpayer
A man who is sick of Earth begs the space company to let him go Mars. "Wait for me! he cried. Don't leave me on this terrible world," It was interesting to see that some people were desperate to leave Earth. The quote shows the man's desperateness to leave.
  • The 3rd Expedition

    The 3rd Expedition
The 3rd expedition makes it to Mars but ends in a terrible, creepy way. "..their faces melting now from a familiar face into something else. " I liked this chapter, the author just keeps up you guessing what is going to happen next. This quote shows that the deceased family and friends were actually gone, but they were just Martians.
  • -And the moon be still as bright

-And the moon be still as bright
The fourth expeditioners come to Mars and find a dead race of Martians, death by chicken pox. "What killed them? Hathaway said simply, Chicken pox. " Spender in this story was a very interesting character, he killed people, but in order to preserve the planet. He convupinves the Captain to believe the same thing right before Spender dies. The quote shows how easily the Martians were killed off.
  • The Settlers

    The Settlers
The true public migrartion from Earth to Mars starts. "The men of Earth came to Mars. " It makes sense that not a ton of people wanted to come to Mars right away. The quote shows the start of the migration.
  • The Green Morning

    The Green Morning
A man trys and succeeds in growing trees on Mars. "..the thing he wanted was Mars grown green and tall with trees and foliage, producing air," I was glad that one man cared enough to try to increase Mars oxygen levels. The quote shows exactly what the man wanted.
  • The Locusts

    The Locusts
90,000 people flood to Mars to start new lives. "In six months a dozen small towns were laid down upon the naked planet." There was a sudden surge of people wanting to come to Mars. The quote shows how many people flooded to the red planet for a second chance.
  • Night Meeting

    Night Meeting
A young man, traveling to a party at night on a lonely road meets a Martian, or the appearance of one. "..that other over there, unreal, a ghostly prism flashing the accumulated light of distant worlds." This might've been my favorite chapter, showing how much we are alike with the Martians. And how a calm person reacted to a Martian. The quote shows that you don't know which being is real, or is current in time.
  • The Shore

    The Shore
Tons of more Earthen people adventure to live on Mars. "They came and made things a little less empty, so that others woulspd find courage to follow." There seems to be too many people moving to Mars, something seems ominous about that that to me. The trailblazers want more people to come inhabit this new planet.
  • Interim

    Interim
Wooden towns are being built. "..to build Tenth city," it is like a quick, fast neighborhood being built. The quote shows that there are other cities.
  • The Musicians

    The Musicians
A group of young boys goes into a Martian settlement to play in their bones. "here goes nothing!" The little boys don't really care what happens, as long as it's fun. This chapter was interesting to see how kids would play, instead of in the woods on Earth.
  • Way in the middle of Air

Way in the middle of Air
A plantation owner's slaves try and escape to freedom on Mars. "Starting new, said Silly. Gonna have my own hardware." It was odd to see that Bradbury thought that there would be salves still in the 2000s. The quote shows how the slaves want to start new.
  • Period: to

    The Naming of Names

(It wouldn't let me put in a pic for this one, I wanted to put a pic of blue mountains in) All the land features and areas are named. "...there was a Spender hill and a Nathaniel York town.." The people are just doing what would happen with any other new land. The quote shows how places on Mars were named after famous people in Mars' history.
  • Usher II

    Usher II
A man build an automated haunted house with creepy replicas of his guests, that he ends up killing. "All right. NOW. The ape killed mr. Garrett." This was also one of my favorite chapters, what would happen if a crazy man built a haunted house on Mars? The quote shows just how weird this chapter was.
  • The Old Ones

    The Old Ones
The elders of Earth decide to come and retire on Mars. "...the mummy people, came at last to Mars..." It seems to me that the older people would want to stay on Earth. It shows how the older people came to Mars.
  • The Martian

    The Martian
A Martian disguises himself as a couples deceased son, and a lot of other people's deceased loved ones. "Tom! Alice! William!" The quote shows how the families desperately wanted their loved one back. The Martian was very clever.
  • The Luggage Store

    The Luggage Store
The man who owns the luggage store believes he will sell all of his merchandise since people will rush back to Earth after the war breaks out. "I imagine they'll turn back. They'll be needed on Earth." The luggage store man is being kind of selfish by saying there is a war so I will get more business. The quote means that once the war starts people will go back to help the war effort.
  • The Off Season

    The Off Season
A man opens a hot-dog stand that he says will be deserted until migrants come to Mars, then the first atom bomb is dropped. "Earth changed in the black sky. It caught fire." Even though the man running away from the Martians was a good part the fact that America got hit by a nuclear warhead defeats all the other stories. The quote just shows how a simple image striked worry.
  • The Watchers

    The Watchers
All the people on Mars start worrying about people on the war ravaged planet. "They stood on porches and tried to believe in the existence if Earth," I personally would worry but I would stay on Mars, and stay safe with my family. The quote shows how hard it is to believe something like that.
  • The Silent Towns

    The Silent Towns
All but two people are left on Mars after the atom bomb was dropped on America. "He had never thought that there might be others left on Mars." I was personally suprised that there were only two people left on Mars. The lonely man thought the opposite of me
  • The Long Years

    The Long Years
A man is living with his human-like robots that act like his dead family. "He stood looking down at four graves...," I felt really bad for this man. He was so lonely he had to literally build company. Te quote shows how his fa,ill is really dead.
  • There will come soft rains

    There will come soft rains
There is a solitary house that survived an atom bomb, it cooks and cleans even though it's owners have been dead for days. "The five spots of paint [the family] remained. The rest of the wall was black. " This chapter was also sad because the house didn't know that it's owners had died, right outside. The quote shows that the owners were killed in the shockwave.
  • The Million-Year Picnic

    The Million-Year Picnic
One family has escaped from Earth's radiation to try to rebuild the human race on Mars. "Now we're alone. We and a handful of others who'll land in a few days. Enough to start over." This was a sad chapter because the boys had to realize that they were never going back to where they were born. The quote shows how deeply the repopulation plan was.
