Augustus Caesar was the first roman emperor. Agustus went into war and came out succesful and formed a triumverate.Then went into war again against Mark Anthony. He came out as true emperor of Rome. Marcus Arurelius ruled 161 C.E to 180 C.E. He was consitered the last of the 5 "Good Emporers". Art and literature flourished that time period. He was an active leader, and fought with his military as a brave leader should. Marcus Aurelius protected his borders, therefore there were never any invasions. -
Diocletien tried to stop the decline of rome. He divided rome into the eastern and western halves. Diocletien took the wealthy, eastern half side. He doubled the military and appointed a co-emporer. When he died, civil wars broke out.

Constantine ruled rome in 337 C.E. Civil wars broke out for the control of rome. Was in battle against licinieous; didnt think he would win because of his weaker army. Saw vision from christian god saying "Under this sign you will conquer". Constantine won the battle and became emporer. He encouraged the people to be Christian. Moved the catital to Bizzantium and changed the name to Constanopel.

Commodus was the end of Pax Romana. He spent all the money on parties and entertainment. He refused to defend borders well, and allowed people to help him rule. This lead to confusion. Commodus sent people to kill the wealthy and he took all their money. His family tried to kill him. When he died, after 12 years of ruling, civil wars broke out and rome crumbled. -

This time period was period of peace. It was brought about by ability of romans to rule others and maintain authority through efficent government. Roman laws, military, organization, trade, and transportation helped hold the empire together. -
Commudus was the first of many bad emperors who brought rome to the decline. Commudus had wasted most of romes money on entertainment. But they did get money from the wealthy people that were ordered to be murdured. Next there was emporer Nero who set fire to Rome and blamed christians.
