Less than a week after a 16 year old was shot near the school the Town of Huntigton's school board voted 4-3 to move all the over 500 students in Jack Abrams to other schools, effectively closing down the school indefinitly. The School would continue to be used for administrative purposes only.

Shotspotter, a technology that uses microphones to listen for the sounds of gunfire and triangulates their location, was approved by the Suffolk County Legislature. The bill proposed by Legislature Jon Cooper was given $450,000 to run a test program in the hopes it will help police better respond to gun fire.
