    The country of panama was still a providence of Columbia. President Teddy Roosevelt offered Columbia 10 million dollars in cash and 250,000 dollars in yearly rent to allow the U.S to build the canal. Columbians did like the idea of the canal being built because it would give U.S control over some of their land. Then the Spooner Bill was passed.

    The United States helped the providence of Panama get and declare independence from Columbia. The U.S gave support for the rebels so the Columbian troops won't get to Panama City. Soon after the Panama nation was born.

    On November 6, 1903 the country of Panama wins their independence from Columbia. A frenchman acting for Panama signed a treaty giving the U.S permenant use and ocntrol over a 10 mile wide zone across the Isthmus of Panama.

    The U.S government started to build the Canal. The U.S had bought land for 40 million dollars. Teddy Roosevelts best known saying was "Make the dirt fly." Ferdinand de Leseps laed a profect the he estimated would take at least 12 years to build.

    During the construction of the Canal there were issues and disease that made major struggles for the canal. Over 6,000 workers died while working on the canal.The workers didnt continue until disease and problems were resolved.

    Through out the year the was an outbreak of disease do to damp nights, mosquitos, and malaria had an affect on the deadly disease called yellow fever. Dr. Gorgas had nearly wiped out yellow fever and he redused the spread of maleria. He did this by clearing swamps and the brush where mosquitos were.

    The Panama Canal On August 15, 1914 the Panama Canal was finally opened. The Atlantic and the Pacific oceans were now joined together as one. The canal was finished 6 months ahead of schedule.

    This verse releates to the canal by saying God can create something huge but he can also destroy something huge. Just like the canal God made it big but he also made it have major complecations to show man that He can use his power in amazing ways. He guided the country of Panama through some tough times to make this canal happen. The country of Columbia was devistated due to the loss of Panama.
