    Cortes Takes over Mexico

    In 1519, Cortes landed over the coast of Mexico with 600 men, 16 horses, and some cannons. With only his crew, he managed to take over the entire Aztec Capital, Tenochtitlan. They did this strategically by holding their entire leader captive, and demanding a ransom for a large amount of gold. This relates to Imperialism because this was a way to seize Mexico for Spain. This takeover allowed Spain to have greater land from forcibly acquiring Mexico for themselves.

    In 1607, the English developed their first successful colony, Virginia. In relation to trade, they found this as an opportunity to seize new land and use it for farms for valuable crops such as tobacco products, and processed sugar. Virginia's first annex attempt resulted in a failure, but they were able to strive towards attaining Virginia and excelling in farming cash crops for trade.

    In relation to European competition in the 1600s, Spain and England attempted to seize as much as North American colonies as possible. Spain captured the South, seizing Texas and Florida. Europe, on the other hand, took many colonies in the East. Both countries were going fast paced, attempting to colonize land.

    During the 1500s, a new systematic method of trade uproared. Slaves from Africa would go to the Colonies and shipbuilding industries would increase drastically in Europe. The colonies would successfully be able to raise tobacco, start fishing, and process sugar. The triangular trade was a major impact towards the colonies' farm and production.

    In relation to European conflict, Britain and France emerged into a powerful rivalry. Europe and France fought within Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia. British soliders launched a series of campaigns against the French in Canada. At first, French often remained victorious; but towards the end, British triumphed the war.
