  • Law of April 6, 1830

    Law of April 6, 1830
    The Mexican Congress came up with the Law of April 6th, 1830. This law canceled almost all of empresario contracts. Green DeWitt and Stephen F. Austin got to keep their contracts. This law outlawed the ban on slavery in Texas. They were trying to make Texas more "Mexican."

  • The Battle of Velasco

    The Battle of Velasco
    The Battle of Velasco was the first bloodshed between Texas and Mexico. The Mexican commander was incharge of the fort in the town of Velasco. He tried to block the Texans from transporting a cannon for possible uses against Mexican forces. On June 26th, 1832, the battle ended. In the end, 18-10 Texans were killed, 12 Texans were wounded, 5 Mexicans were killed, and 15 Mexicans were wounded.

  • Convention of 1832

    Convention of 1832
    The Texas hoped that Santa Anna would win. The delegates met at San Felipe de Austin. They had choosen Austin as their leader. The delegates wanted change in Texas. They asked for immigration from the U.S. to be allowed, and for Texas to become an independant Maxican state.

  • Convention of 1833

    Convention of 1833
    The Convention of 1833 started on April 1st, 1833. The delegates asked for many things. One of the things they asked for was for Texas to become a separate Mexican state. The final piece worked on in the Convention of 1833, was write a rough copy for a the consitution of Texas.

  • Stephen F. Austin's Imprisonment

    Stephen F. Austin's Imprisonment
    Stephen F. Austin was arrested in Saltillo, Texas. Mexican leaders arrested him January, 1834. Austin was not charged with any criminal acts. He was still taken back to Mexico City. Then, he was threw into prison, there. Texans thought they should be calm, so they don't cause any problems with Mexico. That could jeopardize Austin's condition.

    The Battle of Gonzales was located in the Mexican town of Gonzales. The battle was between the Texan settlers, and a detatchment of the Mexican army. It started on October 2nd, 1835.

  • The Siege of San Antonio

    The Siege of San Antonio
    On October 9th, 1835 general Cos had about 800 troops under his rule. For four days, Milam's men fought to drive the enemy from the town. Cos surrendered on December 10th. His troops were set free, and pledged to never come back to Texas.

  • The Battle of the Alamo

    The Battle of the Alamo
    The Battle of the Alamo lasted for 13 days. It was sort of a suprise when Santa Anna came, because he came sooner than they thought. He arrived at the Alamo on February 23rd, 1836. The battle ended on March 6th, 1836. It is estimated that Santa Anna's army killed and wounded about 600 people. In the end, Mexico won.

    On March 5th, the Alamo's north wall began to break down. The Mexican put ladders up. Then, they pulled the walls down.

    People began leaving areas around San Antonio, San Patricio, and Refugio. The Runaway Scrape began, offically, when Houston's retreat started. When people heard about the fall of the Alamo, they dropped everything, and left for safety.

  • Goliad Massacre

    Goliad Massacre
    Colonel James Fannin, and his men, went to Goliad and found that it was now under control by Urrea. Fannin and his men, then got captured and taken to prison. Most of his men were taken to Victoria, Texas. The Mexican soldiers stopped the Texans less than a mile away from Goliad. The Mexicans opened fired on unarmed volunteers. More than 340 men died.

    The Battle of San Jacinto
    This battle only lasted 18 minutes. By the end of the battle, only 9 The Texans killed 630 Mexican soldiers. They also took 730 prisoners from Santa Anna's army. Texas took equipment, captured horses, and took $12,000 in silver. The Texans definitely won this battle, but what happened to Santa Anna? Santa Anna left the battlefield. Texan soldiers search for him, and found him. They took him as a prisoner.

  • The Treaties of Velasco

    The Treaties of Velasco
    Santa Anna and President Burnet agreed to sign a peace treaty, on May 14th, 1836. They think that Santa Anna agreed to the treaty, because Houston spared his life.They signed two treaties. One was a secret treaty, and the other one was for the public to view. On the Public treaty, Santa Anna agreed to never attack Texas again, and to end the war.
