The Texan forces took over Fort Goliad from the Mexicans in 1835. The Mexicans took Fort Goliad back from the Texans just two weeks after the Texan defeat at the Alamo.

After Santa Anna signed the treaties Texas was then independent of Mexico and was then the Republic of Texas.

The Battle of the Alamo lasted a total of thirteen days from February 23, 1836, to March 6, 1836. Santa Anna and his army of thousands marched to San Antonio where the Texans were holding the former mission. Though this was a defeat for the Texans this was a turning point in the Texas Revolution. -
Following the Battle of Coleto; between three and four hundred Texans lost their lives in the town of Goliad. -
The Texas militia under the command of Sam Houston launched a surprise attack on Santa Anna and his soldiers at the battle of San Jacinto.
