The Mexican government rejected the Texans declaration for independence causing war between Texas and Mexico to begin.

12 day battle at the Alamo began consisting of great frontier men such as Davy Crocket. After many of the Mexican Army was lost they still came in and took over all sides of the Alamo and all Texans died. The battle ended on Mar. 6, 1836

13 days after the Alamo defeat Mexican General Santa Anna orders the execution of 400 surrendered Texans.

Sam Houston led the Texan Army to the General Santa Anna's camp at nightime and attacked his army while they were sleeping. It took the Texan army only 18 minutes to kill half of the Mexican Army. This victory lead the security of Texas becoming independent.

During the time when the United States would not annex Texas they were their own Indpendent Colony named the Lone Star Republic.

Texas wanted to become part of the United States, but President Jackson was not comfortable with the decision because of the slave state and because of a fear that Mexico would try to have another war. So Texas elected their own President.

John L. O'Sullivan wrote an article in his newspaper using the term "Manifest Destiny" for Texas and Oregon to have annex. He referred to land that would be from sea to shining sea.
