    Battle of Gonzalez

    On this day in 1835, the growing tensions between Mexico and Texas erupt into violence when Mexican soldiers attempt to disarm the people of Gonzales, sparking the Texan war for independence.With the war begun, Texan forces moved to attack Mexican garrisons in the region and captured San Antonio in December. The Texans would later suffer a reversal at the Battle of the Alamo, but would ultimately win their independence after the Battle of San Jacinto in April 1836.

    Siege of the Alamo

    Dec 1835 george collinsworth and benjamin milam overwhelmed the mexican garrison at the alamo and captured the fort.Feb 23 mexican force comprising of around 2,00 men and commanded by general Antonio lopes de santa anna outnumbered them 10 to 1.forces broke trough.Mexican forces suffered heavy casvalities in the battle of the alamo losing 600 men.

    Runaway scrape

    The Mexican army was advancing, under the command of Santa Anna and General José de Urrea into the Texian territory.It was a period of terror and panic among the settlements of Texas, as Santa Anna and the Mexican armies swept eastward from San Antonio.On March 19 he began his retreat, but he and his men were surrounded and forced to surrender at the battle of Coleto. The Texans were imprisoned by the Mexicans at Goliad and subsequently murdered by order of Antonio López de Santa Anna.
