    -The Texans won the battle which proved to them that Mexico could be beaten and independence was possible

    -Texas delegates met to form a government separate from Mexico
    -George Childress wrote the Declaration of Independence
    -Sam Houston became the Commander of the Texas army
    -March 2, 1836 is an important date for Texans because they officially declared their independence from Mexico
  • The Alamo

    -Mexican Army, let by Santa Anna, surrounded the Alamo for 12 days.
    -Texans were under siege--all supplies and reinforcements were prevented from getting to Texans while the Mexican army waited them out.
    -Mexican Army attacked and none of the Texas soldiers who stayed to fight survived.

    -James Fannin commanded the Texas forces at Goliad.
    -General Urrea commanded the Mexican forces.
    -Fannin realized he could not hold the fort, so he retreated 30 miles east
    -Mexican Army caught up to them at Coleto creek and Fannin surrendered to General Urrea when he realized he would not win.

    -Urrea asked Santa Anna for mercy on the Texan troops
    -Santa Anna ordered another colonel to execute them all.
