    when the mexicans arived in gonzales,Alcalde A. Ponton refused to give up the cannon.While the patrol withdrew across the river,the texans used this time to burry and hide the cannon and prepare.At this time 160 settlers elected J.H. Moore as their leader.As the mexican soldiers returned they dug up the cannon and on a banner next to it inscripted "Come and take it" and as Moors men crossed the river,they fired tiny but loud cannons.Castaneda ordered his men to retreat back to San Antonio

    With the army of people in San Antonio,delegates gathered in San Felipe for a meeting called the Consultation in November 4,1835.The settlers who belonged to the war party urged the deligates to declare independence from mexico, but the peace party wanted to stay loyal to mexico.Two days later the consultation voted against immediate declaration of indipendence and won 33 to 15.They eventualy sent Steven F. Austin and two revolutionaries branch on a mission to the U.S. to raise money for troops

    Battle of the Alamo
    Santa Anna had finaly arrived and the 13 day siege was about to begin.William B Travis was ready and his apeals suddenly had greater importance,but his army was too small so he wrote a message and sent it to gonzales to get more people to help.For 13 days mexican cannonballs bombarded the Alamo while the mexican troops prepared for battle.The Alamo was surrounded,Travis was on of the first to die,and the mexicans finaly got through the walls and killed most of the alamo defenders.

    The delegates gathered at Washington on the Brazos for the second meeting of the Consultation,also known as the Convention of 1836.They had a meeting and the delegates declared Texas indipendent the next day

    The Battle of Coleto
    With Urrea so close ,Fannin could not go to San Antonio.In March 14 Fannin recieved orders from General Sam Houston to retreat to Victoria.Houston wanted to delay further battle,but Fannin however remained in Goliad until March 19,waiting for word from the king.After Fannin began his retreat,he stoped in a field a few miles from goliad to give his men and oxen rest.Urrea's me then surrounded the Texans,but the texans still drove them back and Urrea recieved more troops and Fannin surrenderd

    The Battle of San Jacinto
    A skirmish developed between the mexican army and the Texan calvary.Houstons troops outnumbered Santa Anna's army,but during the night and morning Santa Anna recieved more rienforcements so he had more than 1,300 soldiers.Houston ordered Deaf Smith to burn down Vince's Bridge so the mexicans cant retreat.At about 3:00 P.M. Houstons army caught the mexicans unprepared and attacked.Some Texans were wounded and about 2 killed but they won and eventualy captured Santa Anna.
