Spanish offcials learned of the French fort, and imideatly sent troops to destroy it.Alonso de leon goes to Texas on an expidition to destroy Fort St. Louis, but when he arrives, the fort is abandoned and in ruins.

San Fransico de los Tejas was founded by Father Damian Massanet. The mission was to try to convert the Caddo indians, but the indians refused. In the end, Spanish official decided there was no reason to spend money on the mission, and ordered it abandoned.

San Juan Bautista was founded by Father Fransico Hildago in 1699.It was built west of the Rio Grande with a series of crossing providing acess to texas. The mission earned the name "mother of Texas Missions" because it was the base for many expeditions.

St. Denis arives in Texas and builds the trading post Natchitoches along the Red River.

St. Denis leaves Natchitoches behind, and makes for the mission San Juan Batista ariving in 1714. When he arrives, he is arrested and sent to mexico city.

Starting in 1716 St. Denis builds 6 missions and fort, a presidio called Nuestra Senora de los Dolores de los Tejas. The fort was built to protect the missions from attacks. All the building is done within one year.

The mission La Bahia del Espiritu Santo was founded in 1722 by Aguayo Buildsit.It was first built near the remains of Fort St. Louis, but then moved to the San Antonio River.

In 1748, spanish Friars founded te 3 San Xavier missions. The missions were first intended to serve the Tonkawa.Disease struck, and the apaches raided the settlement. In 1751, the missions were abondoned.

In 17149Jose de Escadon began to build new settlements along the Rio Grande.

From 1756 to 1763, France and England were at war. Spain had sided with England, so when they won, France was gone from Spanish territory. The missiond were not needed any more. All the people living at the other missions were moved to the San Antonio area.

Santa Cruz de San Saba was founded to try to convert the Apache indians to Christians. The mission suffered many attacks from the Commanche, and in the end admited defeat and moved missions.
