    Cabeza de Vaca shipwrecked on the Galveston Island. After trading in the region for six years, he explored Texas on his way to Mexico.

    Coronado

    In search of the Seven Cities of Cibola, Coronado lead an expedition into southwestern United States and across northern Texas.

  • La Salle

    Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle established Fort St. Louis at Matagorda Bay, and formed the France's claim to Texas. Two years later, La Salle was murdered by his own men.

  • Austin Grant

    Stephen F. Austin received a grant from the Mexican government and began to bring people to the Brazos River.
  • Mexican Independence

    In 1824, The Constitution gave Mexico a republican form of government. It failed to define the rights of the states inside the republic.
  • Austin Imprisoned

    Austin asks the Mexicans if they can become their own Sate and they say no and throw him in prison.
  • Battle at Gonzales

    Texas wanted to leave Mexican cavarly at this battle and the Revolution begins.
  • Battle of Alamo

    Travis was the comander. The Mexicans had made a 2 week siege at the Alamo in San Antonio.
  • Runaway Scrape Begins

    The Runaway Scrape happened during the Battle of Bexar.
  • Massacre at Goliad

    400 Texans were killed in the Goilad Massacre under order os Santa Anna.
  • Battle of San Jacinto

    Sam Houston and the Texans met the Mexicans at San Jacinto. Independance was won here.
  • Texas Joins the United States

    The U.S. president, James Polk promised an annex to Texas. He marked Texas the 28th State of the U.S.
  • Texas Secedes and Joins the Confederacy

    They toke a vote for secetion and it was 171 to 6 and the secesion happened.
  • Battle of Galveston - the Bayou City

    This battle restored the island to Texas control for the remainder of the Civil War.
