    Cabeza de Vaca

    Cabesa de Vaca shipwreked. He shipwrecked on what might be Galveston. After that he traded and explored with the people living there.
  • Apr 20, 1540

    Coronado

    Coronado led an exploration. The expedition went into what is now Texas and the Southwest. He led it to find gold for the Spanish Empire, where he was from.

  • La Salle

    La Salle was a French explorer. He established Fort Saint Louis. which now claimed Texas as France's property. This was the first Christian house of worship in Texas.

  • Austin Grant

    Stephen F. Austin was given a grant of land by the Mexican government. This piece of land was designed to build a colony somewhere by the Brazos River, but died a month after recieving his grant.
  • Mexican Independence

    Mexico was given a Republican form of government. Mexico failed in defining the rights of states within the Republic. One of the states included Texas.
  • Austin Imprisoned

    Stephen F. Austen was taken imprisoned by the Mexican Government. He was taken because of growing tensions between the two countries. He was taken by Santa Anna and his men.
  • Battle at Gonzales

    Texans repelled a group of Mexican cavelry. This is what started the revolution. It was because some colonists at Gonzales refused to surrender against a small cannon.
  • Battle of Alamo

    There was a two week siege in San Antonio. This was what led to the Runaway Scrape. The Alamo was a mission set up in San Antonio.
  • Runaway Scrape Begins

    Eveyone fled from their communitites. This happened when Santa Anna attempted to conquest Texas, in 1836. Most people from San Antonio and that area fled as early as January that year.
  • Massacre at Goliad

    Because of Santa Anna's orders, over 400 Texans were executed by Mexicans. He did this to show New Orleans what was going to happen. However, because all of these actions were under Mexican government orders, they cout not be considered illegal or inapporpriate.
  • Battle at San Jacinto

    Under Sam Houston, Texans went to batle against Santa Anna and his men for independence. They wanted to becoime their own government. They wanted this because Snata Anna was a blood thirsty man using his power to kill others.
  • Texas Joins the United States

    James Polk made Texas part of the United States. Texas was the 28th state to join. Texas was signed as a state on December 29, 1845.
  • Texas Secedes and Joins the Confederacy

    Texas seceded from the Federal Union to join the Confederacy for state rights. The stae of Texas and some others waanted to keep slaves and have them still working at the plantations. This didn't work because when a Republican President was elected they seceded into the Confederacy from the United States.
  • Battle of Galveston - the Bayou City

    The Confederate men targeted Galveston and started a battle against Texas. They started another battle to keep slavery. They were led by John B. Magruder.
