Robert Cavilier de Salle established Fort St. Louis at Matagorda Bay, and formed the basis for Frances claim to Texas. Two years later La Salle was murdured. The ironic part was that his men were the ones who killed him.

Stephen F. Austin received a grant from the mexican goverment and began colinisation in the region of the Brazos river.

The mexicans finally had there independance after fighting a very long time to earn it. In 1824, it was finally decided.

Escalating the tensions that woukd lead to rebellion and war, the Mexican govorment imprisoned the Texas colonizer Stephen Austin. Eventully, Texas prevailed and Austin was set free.

This was when the revolution began. The texans had repulsed and the battle at Gonzalez had a big impact.

The battle of the Alamo was fought to defend Texas. Santa Anna led the mexicans as they tried to take down the last of the Texans in San Antonio. Although the mexicans were victorious, the Texans held off the mexicans and this battle basically saved Texas.

This was the time betwee the fall of the Alamo, and the victory at San Jasinto is known as the runaway scrape. This was a very important time in the war for both sides.

A large massacre occured at the site of Goliad. Many many people died, and it was a large devestation.

Texans under Sam Houston routed the mexican forces of Santa Anna at the battle of San Jacinto. Thus, independance was won in one of the most desicive battles in history.

James Polk promiced to annex Texas, and Texas was officially the 28th state of the unites states! Thanks to James Polks campaign, Texas was finally apart of the country.

Texas finally seceded in 1861. When they took a vote, almost everyone voted to decede. Sam Houston was one of the few who did not agree with this desicion.

This is when the island of Galveston, Texas' important harbor was taken back by Texas and it remained Texas territory for the rest of the civil war! They forced everyone on the island to surrendur, and they really had no choice.
