    Cabeza de Vaca
    Cabeza de Vaca was a spanish explorer of the new world, one of the for survivors of the Narvaez expedition. He is remembered as a proto anthropologist for his deatailed accounts of the native american tribes in the area. These accounts were published into a book called La Relacion and later called Naufragios(shipwrecks).

    Franscisco Vasquez de Coronado born in 1510 to a wealthy family in spain was a Spanish conquistador who New Mexico and other parts of the present southwestern United states between 1540 and 1542. Coronado had the dream of conquering the Seven mythical Cities of Gold.

    La Salle
    La Salle a well known french explorer set of for the americas in 1669 up and down the mississippi discovering many new territories such as well known Louisiana in which he named after king louis the IV. In later final explorations La Salle was returning from france with supplys when two of his three ships were either sunk or caotured by pirates he then set of on a ground crew in search of the mississippi when he was killed by his own man by the trinity river.

    This was when the Mexican government gave Austin the land grants to start settling people( the old 300) along the Brazos River.
  • Mexican Independence

    Mexican Independence
    Mexican independence was a war faught by the Spainiard colonial forces and the Mexican people who where lead by Mexican born Spainiards Mestizos and Amerindians who sought independence from Spain. This leadership started a peasents' rebellion. The defeated Spainards surrender and Mexico won its independence on September 16, 1824.

    In 1830 Stephen F. Austin in Mexico city is trying to talk about revolting and starting their own state not as part of Mexico. Stephen F.Austin wrote a letter dicussing this idea. He tried to send it to the municipality of bexar but the letter was intercepted by the vice president of Mexico and Austin was tried with treason, found guilty, and imprisoned.

    The Battle at Gonzales was the first battle of the Texas revolution where Mexico ordered to hand over their two cannons because of the possiblity of rebellon against Mexico. The Texans responded "Come and take it." This small but representative battle only lasted a short time with only one death, a Mexican soldier.

    The battle of the Alamo one of the most important keys to the sucess in Texan independence. With Sannta Anna's army nearing in th em 3 to 4 thousands out numbering the Texan defenders whom only had 189 soldiers. When the battle transpired it was obvious it was no easy win as Sannta Anna had expected but the exact oppisite with the defenders claiming the lives of 2,000 Mexican soldiers over the period of 13 days. Sadly all defenders were killed.

  • Massacre at Goliad

    Massacre at Goliad
    This tragic event was the execction of around 342 Texan soldiers and their commander James Fannin by the mexican army. The execution was unwillingly carried out by General Jose de Urrea under the orders of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.

    In present day Harris County, Texas, was one of the most decisive battles that took place in the Texas Revolution. General Sam Houston engaged and conqured General Santa Anna's military forces in an 18 minute battle in which the Texan army killed 630 mexican soldiers and captured 730 with only the Texans losing nine men in the battle

    Texas soon after 9 years realizing that them alone as a country would never survive and the increasing native attacks were taking a toll on the borders and settlers so Texas joined the United States for the increase in protection and support.
