Stephen F. Austin receives a deed from Mexico's Government and begins to make communities near the Brazos River.

The Mexican Constitution, made in 1824, gave Mexico its own Republican form of Government. The Constitution did not give Texas states rights.

Once they had made a constitution, the colonial leaders directed Austin to travel to Mexico City to present it to the government along with a list of other demands. Austin conceded to the will of the people, but President Santa Ana refused to grant Texas separate status from Coahuila and threw Austin in prison.

Texas seceded from the Union following a 171 to 6 vote by the Secession Convention. Governor Sam Houston was one of the people opposed to secession.

The Battle of Galveston involved three main people, Union Commodore William Renshaw and the Confederacy's Colonel Joseph Cook and Major General John Magruder. The Union sailed into Galveston Harbor and demanded surrender and got it. On New Years Eve, the Confederate Cotton Clads targeted the Union's Harriet Lone. The Union had outgunned the Confederacy's infantry and had 6 ships to the CSA's one, Bayou City. Miraculously, the Confederacy gained a victory.
