    After the Texas Revolution, Sam Houston was sworn in as the first President of the Republic of Texas.

  • Recognizing Texas

    Recognizing Texas
    William H.Wharton and Memucan Hunt show President Jackson that the Texas govenment is responsible, so Jackson officialy recognizes Texas as an independent nation

  • The Second President of Texas

    Mirabeau B. Lamar was chosen to replace Sam Houston as the president of Texas. He was previously Sam Houston's vice president.

  • The Council House Fight

    President Lamar holds a peace conference with the Comanche in San Antonio. It ended up with seven dead Texans and thirty-five dead Comanche.

  • The Battle of Plum Creek

    Near Lockheart, Texas at Plum Creek, Texans push the Comanche farther to the West.

  • The Santa Fe Expedition

    The Santa Fe Expedition
    President Mirabeau Lamar sent an expedition to gain control of Santa Fe, led by Jose Navarro. The expedition failed because Mexican troops intecepted the group of Texans and captured them. Navarro and his group were released from Mexican prison in 1844.

    President Houston had wanted to move the archives in Austin to Houston (In case Austin was attacked). Vigalantes, who feared the capital would be moved to Houston, intercepted the archives and they were sent back to Austin.

    The prisoners of the Mier expedition were forced to draw beans from a bowl. The people who drew white beans were safe, but the seventeen people who drew black beans were executed by the orders of Santa Anna.
