    The purchase for Alaska was arranged on June 20, 1867. It was arranged by William H. Seward and was bought for 7.2 million dollars. This was a very good deal back then because they then got 591,000 square miles of land and the people living there got automatic American citizenship if they lived there for at least two years.   • Destruction of the USS Maine

    Destruction of the USS Maine
    January 24, 1898 President McKinley sent the USS Maine to Cuba. This was the largest battle ship in the world at that time. The USS Maine blew up the following month by roughly 5 tons of gun powder igniting, blowing up the forward third of the ship. Source: Text

  • Peace Treaty signed

    Peace Treaty signed
    This peace treaty would end the Spanish-American war. It stated that Cuba would become independent from Spain and the U.S would get Guam, Puerto Rico, and another small Spanish island colony. This was signed on December 10, 1898. Source: Text

  • Platt Amendment

    The Platt Amendment established that the U.S would end its military occupation and Cuba and leave it to their people. The Platt Amendment had 8 conditions that had to be met by the Cuban government before the U.S military withdrawed. Source: Text
  • Puerto Rico becomes U.S territory
