Secession Convention of 1861

They called Texans together to elected delegates, in Austin. They did this so they could figure out how to fix the issue of secession.

Texas votes to secede

Feb 1, 1861

Texas votes to secede from the US on this day. Texas voted to secede 166-8!

Texans vote to leave the union

Feb 23, 1861

Unionists tried to delay the vote by delegates of Texas leaving the union. They failed delegates voted 166-8 to leave the union.

Leaving the union

Mar 2, 1861

On this proud day Texas became the 7th state to leave the Union and to join the confederate states.
