Provided needy children with a low price pint of whole milk. -
The Special Food Service Program for Children
The Special Food Service Program for Children was created as an amendment to the NSLA in 1968. -
Breakfast Program
made permanent in 1975. Provides students with a healthy breakfast at a free or reduced price. Based on family income. -
Healthy School Meals Initiative
In 1994 a number of changes were made to the NSLP primarily emphasizing the need to standardize the nutritional quality of school meals. Dietary guidelines were proposed to take effect in 1996. Also, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) launched the Healthy School Meals Initiative to improve nutritional education for school age children. -
Hunger- Free kids act
his act provides more funding for school lunch programs. It also supports more fresh fruits and vegetables in the cafeteria. It also raises nutritional standards in child care facilities. It allows for the USDA to raise quality standards for school breakfasts and lunches. It encourages the farm-to-school program and for schools to plant gardens.
