Other school shootings: Virgina Tech
The Virgina Tech Massacure occured at Virgina Polytechnic Institute and State University. Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people and severly wounded 17 others, followed by commiting suicide. It was the biggest attack by a single person ever. It sparked several debates about new gun cultures, and created much criticism to the U.S. This along with every other school shooting around the world have impacted the saftey of schools and the new and improved gun saftey laws to keep people more safe. -
Other school shootings: Finland
At a school in Kauhajoki, Finland, 22 year old Matti Saari shot nine students and a teacher, then shooting himself afterwards. It was the secong school shooting in under a year in Finland. This shows how school security everywhere needed to be hightened and as a result it finally was. -
The Impact
The Sandy Hook, Virginia tech, Finalnd, and all school shootings around the world have impacted safety laws to this day. Along with the new gun laws, schools have now changed their ways to protect people from an attacker. It was enforced by the government and will keep schools more safe than before. After everything that has happened in the past, security has been more intact now than it has in the past few years, and it should stay that way to ensure kids and staff in school can remain safe. -
Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting
The Sandy Hook Elemantry School in Newton, Conneticut was attacked by 20 year old Adam Lanza. Before he got to the school, he murdered his mother. He was said to have brought three guns with him and shot and killed 20 students and 6 staff members. And after everything, commited suicide by shooting himself in the head. It was the second largest school shooting by one person ever, only behind the Virgina Tech Massacure. -

The crime that happened at Sandy Hook promted new gun rules throughout the United States. It created new universal background checks, and renewed debates about all weapons and large capacity magazine bans. -

New Gun Policy
There were 109 new laws passed after the mass shootinf at Sandy Hook. Almost every state had created a new gun law, most of them eased restrictions and allowed more gun rights to the owners, most of those states were Republican. In more Democratic states, gun laws were more restricted Presidant Obama signed 23 executive orders to limit gun violence. Overall, 37 states increased their mental health spending.
