    U.S. Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was a statement made by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. It stated that the thirteen American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, regarded themselves as independent states, and was now no longer a part of the British Empire.

    The French revolution was period of political upheaval that had a major impact on France. The monarchy that had ruled France for centuries had collapsed and caused many problems.

    The Panic of 1819 led to depression and was a period of time with low economic activity. In 1819, the United states experienced a financial panic and economic criscis. Many businesses and many banks were closed down, and people lost lots of money.
  • Mexican Independence

    On September 16, 1810, a priest named Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla started a revolt against the Spanish. The Spanish were finally defeated in 1821. Now, they celebrate this holiday every year on September 16th.

    The 1824 Constitution was composed of 7 titles and 171 articles, and was based on the Constitution of Cadiz.Catholicism was the official and unique religion and was defined as a representative federal republic.

    In 1824, the Mexican government formed the state Coahuila y Texas. They combined Texas and Coahuila in to one state. They hoped that it would improve the Texas economy and give defense against the indians.The capital was Saltilo. The first Texas citizen to serve in this state was Baron de Bastrop. He wanted Texas to grow bigger.

    The "Old Three Hundred' was a group of settlers that recieved land grants in Stephen F. Austin's first colony. Austin wanted to bring families from the United States to Texas.
