The October Manifesto was a document made by Tsar Nicholas II during the peak of the 1905 Revolution. It promised social and political reforms to the government. I chose this political cartoon because I believe it accurately represents this topic. -

The start of WW1, which was also called the Great War, began in 1914. It began due to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. His murder started war across Europe. I chose this picture because it accurately represents the trench warfare used in the beginning and throughout WW1. -
Czar Nicholas II take sole control of military operations
In 1915, Czar Nicholas II closed the Duma, which alienated many liberals. He then declared himself commander in chief of the army and went to the Eastern Front to try and take control of operations. I chose this picture because it shows him in control and balancing everything. -

Assassination of Rasputin
Rasputin, who was a self-proclaimed holy man, was murdered by Russian nobles in attempt to stop his influence on the royal family. I chose this photo because it gives an accurate representation of Rasputin. -
International Women’s Day March in Petrograd
This day marked the day where people protested against Russia for the food shortages, poor living conditions, and WW1. I chose this picture because it accurately represents the protests going on during this day. -
Nicholas II Abdicates
The abdication or manifesto of the Emperor Nicholas II was in the midst of WW1 and during the February Revolution. I chose this picture because it accurately represents a newspaper that was published after he abdicated. -

Shows how people loved him and how happy people were. This is a monumental moment for people. -

Shows the congress and how it was formated to make everyone talk. -

Shows how many people have died and how the pic shows how many were running away from the violance. -
Kornilov Affair
This is a photo of General Lavr Kornilov with the Russian Army before the Kornilov Affair. This photo was chosen because it shows how Commander-In-Chief, Gen. Kornilov led the Army into Petrograd. -
Trotsky organizes Red Guard to defend Petrograd
This photo depicts the Red Guard in a gun fight with someone. This photo was chosen because it shows the Red Guard defending Petrograd, such as in the Kornilov Affair. It also foreshadows the violence the Red Guard would be involved in during the Russian Civil War. -
Bolsheviks overthrow the Provisional Government and take control
This is an image of Vladimir Lenin addressing the Second All-Russian Congress of Soviets in Petrograd. This image was chosen because it shows how the Bolsheviks restructured Russia's government after overthrowing the Provisional Government. -
Cheka Formed
This photo is a cartoon depicting the Cheka as a skeleton with hanging people and fire in the background. This photo was chosen because it shows the death and destruction caused by the Cheka. Over 100,000 people were killed by them during the Bolshevik's rule. -
Wartime Communism created
The picture at the time acted as propaganda for a progressive agenda in Russia. However, pointing his finger as if he demands the peasants to get to work also represents how Lenin and the Bolshevik party was dictatorial to every other Soviet citizen under war communism. -

This photo displays what the Cheka would do to traitors to the regime and how people suffered behind closed doors. This photo also shows how what the Russian people feared and why they would stay in line with a regime that they don't necessarily agree with. -
Constituent Assembly meets and is disbanded
This is an image of two pie charts of the election results and seats in Russia's Constituent Assembly. This image was chosen because it shows the reason the Assembly was disbanded- the Bolsheviks lost the majority to the Socialist Revolutionaries. -

This image was chosen because it shows what/how much territory was ceded by Russia in the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk in exchange for a peaceful exit from WWI and no further invasion from Germany. -
Supreme Commander Kolchak begins serious attacks against Reds from Siberia
This photo shows Kolchak sitting and watching a military exercise alongside his high-ranked peers. It defines how Kolchak was a tyrant in a way and how he felt that he was above the peasants who were fighting for his army. It, therefore, defines one of the major reasons for the Whites' defeat, their disunity and comradery. -
Tambov Rebellion
This picture represents the low class peasants fighting against the repressive Bolshevik government during the Russian Civil War. The red flag in the picture represents the fighting against the reds as they use guerilla tactics to show their disposition -

I used a photo of Ukraine in the modern day because it represents how hard-fought of a war the Ukrainians fought in the past and today. They prolonged their occupation for years in pursuit of independence. -
Soviets attempt to take Warsaw
The soldiers by set up artillery in this photo exemplify how these attacks were those that come from a foreign power. These people are defending their homes meaning they have a reason to fight and will therefore fight harder. This may be a reason for the Poles' victory against the Soviets. -
Poles move toward Kiev
This picture shows how in both nations' fight for independence, they worked together to stop the superpower that is Russia. They have a shared border meaning that it is easier to aid each other and fight their enemies on multiple fronts, and likewise, they do this to Russia to progress both of their goals. -
Ending of Wartime Communism
This political cartoon was chosen due to the War Communism's failure to help the Russian economy. Lenin denies his failures as a leader and establishes the NEP. Shows how the ship is Lenin's denial of the problem and the NEP is the economic solution despite the hypocrisy -
Kronstadt Uprising
The Kronstadt Rebellion was an isolated mutiny started by soldiers and sailors. They rebell and fight against the Bolshevik government in Kronstadt which is near Petrograd. The political cartoon depicts a sailor fighting against the government due to political oppression, food shortages etc. -

This picture was chosen for comedic effects. But it is an actual photo of the German Ambassador and the Russians to against the Treaty of Versailles. (not the photoshopped heads) Showing a rebellion against the Allies -

This picture was chosen due to many participants of the signing which represents how large the USSR was when it was started. Showing there was a large union between the marxisists/leninism ideology -
Lenin Dies
This picture depicts Lenin on his deathbed surrounded by his devoted followers, government workers, and other Bolsheviks. Showing how Leninism ended with the death of Vladimir Lenin.
