    On January 22, 1905, about 200,000 workers and families went to Czars palace to petition to Nichlos II. They were asking for more rights, better working condition and better pay. Nichlas II generals ordered soliders to shoot into the crowd. It then provoked violence, and then Nichlas II refused to share the power of the Czar which caused the crowd to be angry and cause more violence in the long run.

    In 1914, Nicholas II made a bad decision to bring Russia into World War I. Russia was unprepared to handle the military and economic costs. Its weak generals and poorly equipped troops were no match for the German army. Russia was in such bad condition, a year had passed, more than 4 million Russian soldiers had been killed and wounded. And soilders basically gave up on the war because of food and fuel shortages.

    Nearly 200,000 women textile workers in Petrograd led a citywide strike. In the next few days, riots sparked up over of shortages of bread and fuel. Soldiers then started to shoot the rioters but later joined them.It finally forced Czar Nicholas II to left his throne. A year later the civilians murdered Nicholas II and his family. Their goverment was still in rough shape but Alexander Kerensky headed the new goverment.The people were still mad with the goverment and demand land and power still

    In November 1917, by surprise, workers stormed to the palace calling themselves the red gaurds and took over the government withen 5 days. Vladmir Lenin ordered that all farmland must be distributed among the peasants, and give control of factories to all of the workers.The Bolshevik government also signed a agreement with Germany to stop all fighting called The treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

    In March of 1918, Russia and Germany sighned the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. The terms to the treaty was objected to the Bolsheviks (Red guards) and their policies and to the kill the royal family. The treaty was also humilating to the Russians because they lost a big chunk of land too. Next, the red guards now have to face the enemies at home. They had to deal with the white army, who consist of people who supported the czar, or a different form of goverment which sparked the civil war.

    The revolutionary leader, Leon Trotsky, commanded the Bolshevik Red Army which proved him well. The white army had several western countries including U.S. to back them up but did little help. Around 14 million Russians died in the three-years including the civil war, famine, hunger, and a worldwide flu which left Russia in chaos. Even though that happened the red Army came out and defeated the white army anyway which proved how strong and determined the red army was.

    After the civil war and the revoultion, it completly destroyed Russia's economy. That made Vladimir Lenin put a temporarly goverment called the New Economic Policy which is basically a mini version of Capitalism. This allowed the poor people (peasents) to sell their crops but the goverment , and more open about foreign investments. The goverment would watch more industies, banks and communication. After the policies in Russia's economy straightened out, soon the economy got better.

    It was named the Union of the Soviet rebublic, in honor of the councels that helped out with the revoultion. Even though Lenin suffered a stroke in 1922. but the incident set in motion competition for heading up the Communist Party. Joesph Stalin then became the new dictator of Russia. By 1928, Stalin was was in complete control of the Communist Party.
