  • Decembrist Revolt

    Decembrist Revolt
    A group of nobles and army officers attempted to overthrow the czar government. Their plan was to create a constitutional monarchy, but they were crushed immediately. They later became heros to new generations of revolutionaries.
  • Emancipation of the Serfs

    Emancipation of the Serfs
    The first major liberal reform by Alexander II of Russia. It eliminated the hard unfair labor suffered by the peasants. More than 23 million serfs gained their independence.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Unarmed and peaceful protesters of Czar Nicholas II were gunned down by the Imperial Guard in St. Petersburg square. The massacre caused great consequences for the Czar regime.

    Revolution of 1905
    After the events at St. Petersburg square on Bloody Sunday, riots and strikes swept the country. The Czar made a Duma to appease the peasants but it had very little power and did little to ease the pain of Russian citizens.

    Russia entered the war on the side of the allies sending in 1.4 million troops but growing to 5 million. They lost more than any other countries in the war and the death and injury as well as loss of resources and income, crippled the country and slowed down progress drastically. Although they had victory , it came at a cost.

    Rasputin was a Russina mystic who was beleived to have unnatural powers. He became the adviser to the Czar and replaced a number of other consulers. In rage the politicians killed him.( it took a beating, stabbing, shooting, and drowning attempt to kill him)
  • March Revolution

    March Revolution
    Riots broke out in the capital and spread but the soldiers refused to open fire on the massive crowds. A week later Czar NicholasII abdicated the throne. The Duma set up a provisional government but it failed and the Soviets found there way into power.

    As the March revolution gets to full swing the Tsar loses his power. In an attempt to save his life he gives up his throne to the largest kingdom in the world.

    Bolshevik Revolution
    The revolution began after WWI after the Czar sent millions into battle who became enraged and ready for a revolution. The revolution successfully kicked the Czar's from power and a communist government was instated, lead by Vladamir Lennin.

    After the Czar gave up power the revolting Bolsheviks Lennin ordered that the entire family was to be killed, and taken somehwere to be buried in secret.

    The treaty that was singed after WWI to officially end the war. The treaty was between the allies (including Russia who lost 1.7 million troops in the war) and Germany.

    Stalin Takes Power /Death of Trotsky
    When Lennin died in 1924 everyone expected that Trotsky would take power even though he was disliked by many people, Lennin didnt trust Stalin to rule. But the document revealing Lennin's choice of a successor was taken by Stalin and Trotsky was exiled to Mexico where he was killed. This left Stalin free to manipulate himself into power.

    Lennin Dies/ USSR is Formed
    Lennin worked throughout his rule to form the USSR. When he died in 1924 Stalin continued his work but instituted a strict totalitarian state. The USSR grew to include 15 republics and they were ruled by the Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic.
