  • Decembrist Revolt

    Decembrist Revolt
    A small group of nobles and officers tried overthrowing the czar. Nicholas I crushed them and executed five leaders. The public didn't like that and the decembrists were heroes to later generations.
  • Alexander II emancipates the Serfs

    Alexander II emancipates the Serfs
    When Alexander emancipated the serfs and gave them the freedom of speech it had the elements of starting a revolution. If they "give an inch, they take a mile." They did however had to buy land at higher prices.
  • Assassination of Alexander II

    Assassination of Alexander II
    Czar Alexander II was assassinated in his carriage by three bombers. Seven Cossacks were supposed to have protected him, but they couldn't react fast enough. This lead to the revolution because the public was upset after the assassination.
  • Russo- Japanese War

    The Russians were trying to gain the peninsula of Korea. The Japanese fought them for it. The Japanese won by a lot, and Nicholas II was blamed for the losses. The public didn't not like his decision making.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Protestors demanded bread and peace. In response, Nicholas II ordered soldiers to fire on the crowd. This infuriated the public.
  • Revolution of 1905

    The Revolution was lead by Father Gapon, and he lead 150,000 Russians. The soldiers were told to crush the resistance, but the soldiers joined in on the protest. This was the end of Czar Nicholas II.

    Russians were dragged into the war because Austria-Hungary attacked Serbia. Germany had an alliance with Austria-Hungary.Russia lost many soldiers and didn't have food at home. This made the public mad, and they didn't want to be in the war
  • March Revolution

    March Revolution
    Russians were upset with their government. Workers marched in Petrograd and rioting over foot shortages. This caused Nicholas II to abdicate a week later.
  • Nicholas II abdicates the Thrown

    Nicholas II abdicates the Thrown
    Russians demanded that changes were to be made. They chanted "Bread, Peace, and Land!" After Nicholas abdicated, a provisional government was set up. This didn't last because months later, the Bolsheviks took power.
