  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    A small group of nobles and army officers tried to overthrow the czar's government, hoping to set up a constitutional monarchy. Czar Nicholas I however crushed the uprising when he executed five leaders and exiled hundreds more to Siberia. Even though the Decembrists didn't succeed they sill became heroes to later revolutionaries.
  • Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs

    Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    1861, Czar Alexander II freed all of the serfs in Russia. This gave the serfs a fair chance at life, and be able to have a family and a home. This made many other workers in Russia very mad.
  • The Assassination of Alexander II

    The Assassination of Alexander II
    A revolution was breaking out witht the poor city workers, or proletariats because Alexander II reduced and weakened the reforms, freed the serfs, and relaxed censorship. The proletariats got very upset, and radicals turned to terrorism. In 1881, Alexander II was killed by a terrorist bomb in St. Petersburg.

    The Russo-Japanese War
    Russia wanted to expand their land into Korea, this provoked Japan. The impact of this war was that Russia lost thousands of soldiers and spend millions of dollars on this war. Also, Russia got perceived as a weak nation, and many of Russia's citizens blamed Nicholas II.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Father Gapon, a Russian Orthodox Priest led a protest of about 200,000 people at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. The people and the national anthem and shouted that they wanted more democracy, food, and job availability. Soldiers moved in on the crowd, and fired, about 1,000 people were killed or wounded.
  • Revolution of 1905

    Revolution of 1905
    The Revolution of 1905 was sparked by Bloody Sunday, in this revolution riots and strikes swept over the cities where the peasants looted and burned the homes of the landowners in the countryside. To try to end the violence, Czar Nicholas II finally agreed to set up an elected assembly called the Duma and made other minor reforms. However, the Duma had little power and the reforms did not help, this gave discontent to the many groups in Russia.

    World War I
    The countrys involved were Russia, Britain, France, and USA were against Germany, and Austria-Hungary. The Russians changed their capital city from St. Petersburg to Petrograd because St. Petersburg was too German. During this war Russia lost thousands of men because of lack of weapons, and food, the people started to get mad at Czar Nicholas, and had ideas of revolution.

    Czar Nicholas II Abdicates the Russian Throne
    After the March Revolution, the people of Russia were upset with Czar Nicholas II. With this in mind, and Nicholas II's own thoughts of leaving, he did. Czar Nicholas II abdicated, or gave up the throne in February 1917, making Nicholas II the last czar ever in Russia.
  • The March Revolution

    The March Revolution
    Riots break out in Petrograd, Russia's capital, where workers had oranized into groups or soviets. During this revolution a provisional government, or a temporary government was formed. After this revolution Nicholars II was abdicated, or gave up the throne, this was the last czar ever in Russia.
