  • Decembrist Revolution

    Decembrist Revolution
    Facts
    1.Took Place in Saint Petersburg
    2.Russian Army and 3,000 soldiers protested against Nicholas I taking power
    3.The revolt was ended by the 9,000 loyal troops Cause: When Constantine removed himself from power, Nicholas I was in next in line to take power of Russia. Some Russians did not approve of this and revolted against him. Cosequences: 289 rebels were tried in court and 31 ended up being imprisoned. Consequences:
  • Emancipation of the Serfs

    Emancipation of the Serfs
    Facts
    1.First reform movement of Alexander II
    2. 23 million people received freedom
    3.All rights were given to serfs as they became regular citizens Causes: Alexander II wanted to reform Russia in order to improve the empire. Consequences: Serfdom was no longer allowed in Russia. All people had the same rights as citizens.
  • Revolution of 1905

    Revolution of 1905
    Facts
    1. 110,000 workers went on strike because their wages were cut even though costs of good was rising
    2.Police killed 100 and injured 300
    3.Students went on strike over civil liberties Causes: Factory and working conditions were bad and civil liberties were very limited. The people wanted to get rid of the autocracy of Nichola II. Consequences: The October Manifesto was finally passed which gave the freedom of speech, conscience, and meeting. This was a huge step forward in rights.

    1.Demonstrators in Saint Petersburg were petitioning against Nicholas II
    2.The Russian Army shot and killed as many as 4,000 according to the antigovernment supporters
    3.Some of the protesters fired back at the Russian Army Causes: Tsar Nicholas was keeping rights away from the citizen of Russia. They wanted more rights and a different form of government. Consequences: This event started the revolution of 1905.

    Russia Enters WWI
    Facts
    1.The Russian Army had 5,000,000 soldiers for the war
    2.Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich led the army instead of Nicholas II
    3.Gun shortages prevented all soldiers from being armed Causes: Russia was allied with Serbia and an attack on Serbia brought Russia into the war. Consequences: A decree of peace was issued to end the fighting. Between 900,000 and 2,500,000 Russians were killed.
  • Rasputin Murdered

    Facts
    1.He was killed because the aristocracy saw him as in too high of regards
    2.He survived several different methods in attempting to kill him
    3.He was seen as a dark force that was ruining Russia Causes: Rasputin was seen as too powerful because of his healing powers. The aristocracy wanted to take him down so they killed him. Consequences: Rasputin was killed and rumors such as he was sleeping with the tsarina were ended.
  • Tsar Nicholas II Abdicates

    Tsar Nicholas II Abdicates
    Facts
    1.The Russian failure in WW I lead to disapproval from the people which hinted to Nicholas to abdicate
    2.He issued his abdication 2 days after the Russian Army High Command recommend that he abdicates
    3.Him and his family were then arrested and moved to Siberia Causes: Nicholas's failure in World War One lead to disapproval that ultimately lead to the recommendation for him to abdicate. Consequences: The Tsar was replaced by a Russian Provisional Government.

    3.The Tsar was replaced by a Russian Provisional Government Causes: The people of Russia wanted change and needed a new government. Consequences: The Tsar was replaced by a Russian Provisional Government.
  • Bolshevik Revolution

    Bolshevik Revolution
    Facts
    1.The Soviet Union was founded
    2.Communist party took power and started changing Russia
    3.Vladamir Lenin founded the organization that led the working class of Russia Causes: After Nicholas II abdicated, the Bolsheviks took power which ultimately became the Communist party. Consequences: All nationalities received equal rights which was not available prior to the Bolsheviks taking power.
  • Murder of Romanovs

    Murder of Romanovs
    Facts
    1.Since Nicholas was still alive, the Bolsheviks did not have all supports. Some still thought Nicholas was the right ruler of Russia.
    2.The family was told there was trouble in the city and they were taken to the basement.
    3.The Red Army shot the family and took their bodies to hide and bury them. Causes: Full support was not received by the Bolshevik party because Nicholas was still alive. They needed to kill him and the family line. Consequences: The Romanov dynasty was ended.

    Facts
    1.Ended WWI between Germany and the Allied Forces
    2.Russia could not negociate because of the peace treaty between Russia and Germany earlier
    3.Russia lost some of it's land and resources Causes: World War One continued even though Russia dropped out early. Consequences: Russia didn't have a say in the negociations. Russia also land was lost from the earlier peace treaty.
  • Lenin Dies/USSR Formed

    Lenin Dies/USSR Formed
    Facts
    1.After the Bolsheviks won the Russian Civil War, the Soviet Union was formed
    2.After Lenin Dies, Stalin gains power and industrializes the country
    3.The single party political system was run by the Communist party. Causes: After the Bosheviks won the Civil War, they set up the USSR. Consequences: The USSR was turned into a communistic country.
  • Stalin Takes Power / Death of Trotsky

    Stalin Takes Power / Death of Trotsky
    Facts
    1.Stalin takes power after the death of Lenin
    2.Trotsky was one of the leaders of the October Revolution. He was behind Lenin in power
    3.Stalin was made General Secretary of the Communist Party in 1922 Causes: Stalin took power after Lenin died. Trotsky was killed by a hatchet taken to the head Consequences: Stalin took power of the Communist party.
