Russian Revolution Timeline

  • Decembrist Revolt

    During this time in Russia army officials took their soilders on a revolt over Tsar Nicholas I taking over the throne and his conservative ways. Many of the revoltist were taken down by the Tsar's forces when ever they were beginning to revolt.
  • Emancipation of the serfs

    During this time the serfs were not treated well at all. There were many bad things that were inhumane, Alexander II made a commitee to solve the problem of the serfs and what they can do with their land. In 1861 they were free, but they were not given any land, but if they wanted land they had to pay for the land to own it.
  • Bloody Sunday

    On this day over 100 workers were killed when they tried to have a peaceful protest at the capital. Where they were meet by soldiers of the government and when they did not stop the soldiers opened fire upon them. Many of the people of Russia were infuriated with the government for this.
  • Revolution of 1905

    In Russia at this time many of the citizens were staging protests on the way they worked to the way the country was being run. This all started because of Bloody Sunday early in the year. This all culminated in the Tsar signing the October Manifesto.
  • Russia Enter WWI

    During this time Russia decided to enter WWI against Germany and joined forces with the allies. Where they thought they would have great success in the war. But the Russians sent many of their own serfs to the front lines with no training and no weapons, which left many of the citizens angry and this all led up to the disrest in the country.
  • Rasputin Murdered

    Rasputin was murdered on this date by men who wanted to end his sway over the royal family. Although the murderers wanted the murder to go quickly, they had to keep trying because Rasputin just would not die on them. So they finally threw him in a river where he almost got out but he did die from water in his lungs.
  • March Revolution

    During this time in Russia many of the citizens wanted reform from the government. Many of the military actually revolted and help the Provisional government get started and overthrow the Tsar and his family.
  • Tsar Nicholas II Abdicates

    Tsar Nicholas II left the position of Tsar after the Provisional government was formed and gained a lot of supporters. With this it ended the 300 years of Russia having a Tsar in power.
  • Bolshevik Revolution

    At this time World War I just ended and the people were frustrated that the government was not doing enough to help the people of the country. So the people began to revolt against the government. Which ended in the Bolsheviks overthrowing the governmental party in charge.
  • Murder of the Romanovs

    The Romanov family was murdered on this date in Ekateringburg Russia. One night when they were sleeping in a house while under house arrest they were woken up and asked to go down stairs where they were met by some of the Red army members who began to shoot the family. But there is still some speculation of what actually happened that night when the family was killed.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    During this time the first world war had just ended and the allies made an agreement with Germany to end the war. The treaty was supposed to set up a League of Nations to help solve the world diplomatic problems. The russians had no real part of the treaty but did get some land back from Germany which was rewarded to them in the Treaty of Brest- Litosk
  • Lenin Dies/ USSR formed

    Vladimie Lenin died on this date in his home, and passed power over to Joseph Stalin. Lenin had established the USSR two years prior to his death in 1922
  • Stalin Takes Power/ Death of Trotsky

    Leon Trotsky, was the leader of the Bolshevik party and was exiled from Russia by Joseph Stalin. Who was said to have sent a assasin to kill him in Mexico City, which he was killed by a pickaxe. When Trotsky finally died the leadership of the country was passed over to Stalin with no one in his way to stop him.
