A group of nobles and army officers tried to overthrow the Czar and failed causing 5 leaders to be executed and hundreds more exiled. -
The Emancipation of Russian Serfs
New ruler freed the serfs and allowed them political rights and they were allowed to own homes and tools. However, even with all the new luxuries serfs still struggled economicly. -
Social Democratic Party Splits
Revolutionaries wanted to establish socialism against the other party and tried to enlist peasants into the revolution. However, racial groups turned to terrorism and czars were assasinated. -

Conflict with Japan over Korea and Manchuria lead to war and caused a loss for Russia and increased their economic hardships. -
Revolution of 1905
The revolution was caused by Bloody Sunday. Riots and strikes swpet the cities and the Czar tried to calm the people but ended up not solving any of their problems so inequality and repression remained. -
Bloody Sunday
Father Georgi Gapon planned a peaceful march with factory workers to the Czar's palace in St. Petersburg to ask for better working conditions. Soldiers ended up open firing on the crowd killing and wounding hundreds of men and women. -
Bolshevik Revolution
Socialist revolution against the soviets and the revolutionaries won with Lenin as their leaders. Lenin also allowed peasants to keep their land and made their peace with Germany. -
Czar Nicholas II Abdicates the Russian Throne
People started to riot on shortage of food and soliders refused to fire and some even joined in on the riots causing the Czar to give up the throne. -
Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
This was a treaty between Russia and Germany to end their rivalry and marked the end of Russia's envolvement in WWI. -
Russian Civil War
Conflict of which government was a better fit for Russia which led to war. This just caused more resources to be lost and people killed when communism won.
